From what I am observing, about this euro vs. US dollar attitude, paying to visit Paris & shop probably won't save money.
It's going to cost extra.

I could see picking up a special souvenier, if already visiting. That 1 could prove cheaper & convenient.
Otherwise, save travel time/expense & buy desired things in US.

Chanel has adjusted prices to reflect currency exchange rates, anyhow. So not much benefit.
Plus, hassle of vat forms, etc.

I suppose I don't see need for 20 lv bags. Or that they must be purchased in France for sentimentality.
These may be factors in understanding sense of this behavior--buy in bulk for emotional reasons?

Just my thoughts.
 
I was planning a trip to Paris (much easier for me as I live in London) but after Chanel's price increase, there doesn't seem as much point. I might still go when I'm ready for Hermes but so much seems dependent on luck, it does put me off a bit. The saving on LV isn't really enough for me to want to go just for that.
