Is there any way to get rid of one? It really bothers me - piggies are not fans of deformed fingers!

I don't write very much at all by hand, so I'm not sure why it's still there. Part of me suspects it's from doing my nails, as it seems to have gotten much more prominent since I started wearing nail lacquer again :p

Do they ever go away?? Will extra moisturizing help? Can I exfoliate or will that only make it worse? ( ' (oo) ' )

not to sound gross, but is it kind of like the corns that can develop on ones feet? if so, i would recommend one of those little bandaids that have salicylic acid in them to kind of melt the bump off. they can be found in the foot care aisle of any drugstore. or maybe moisturize and use a file?

I have one since high school from holding my pen too tight. It's not so big now, but I'm a teacher and I still write a lot, so I don't think it's going away. But it doesn't bother me either. I must say I never tried to do something about it, but I think qudz104 advice is good.

I have them on my hands from all the horse riding i do ( holding the reins) so i would be keen to know if someone has a way of minimising them. Will try the corn patches and report back.....

Which finger is it on? I had one for the longest time on the second finger in from my pinkie as a result of writing. It would get sore and hurt sometimes. I realized I was writing real hard. I ended up switching the way I write and it's been gone ever since!!!

I think that if you take notice of exactly what you're doing and try to change it up, it will help you. I've not heard of any other way to get rid of it. So it will be interesting to hear if someone does. I'm not much help, but just thought I'd share and hope you find a solution.

thanks for all the responses so far!! the reason I'm sort of mystified by it is that I really write very little these days by hand. the bump actually went away for a few years after university, and now it's suddenly reappeared, and I can't quite figure out why . . .

it's actually just a regular callus, a thicker area of skin . . . I'll try the salicylic acid patches anyway though - thanks for the suggestion! b(^(oo)^)d

I was curious about this and in fact when I hold a bottle of np I hold it in very much the same way as I hold a pen - so I think you've answered your own question, Piggy! It would be interesting to see if manicurists have such a bump.

I have a small writer's bump (on the left side of my right middle finger), but also a mouser's bump on my hand, at the base of the palm on the little finger edge. My BF had one too, more pronounced than mine - he was always on the computer. I've had some success reducing it by layering two soft mousemats so that part of my hand is resting on a cushioned airgap.

So following a similar principle: this sounds a bit extreme but how about cutting a strip of foam, cushiony shelf-liner or bubblewrap to wrap around the lid of your polish bottle as you paint?

I have both the writer's and the rider's bumps! I got the writer one when I was in grade 3. In 1973. I hardly ever write anything by hand anymore, and although it is much smaller than when I *did* write everything, it is still there. It has also deformed that fingernail quite a bit. :( The rider's bumps are more recent, and I don't think it will go away because it seems to be a calcification of the bone at that point. I don't know if the writer one is also, I've never had that hand xrayed. Anyway, this doesn't really add anything to the solution set, but just know that I feel your pain!
