I have taken a fancy to the Harry Winston Avenue C Mini Lily Cluster Watch.

The watch is stunning, and I know it would be beautiful for cocktail and formal events. However, I am less certain that it would be an appropriate choice for more casual attire such as jeans and a sweater or blouse.

At this time, I am not really wanting to purchase a watch that would only be appropriate for formal events.

What are your thoughts?

Yes, I would wear it with jeans. This watch is too beautiful to be worn only for formal occasions.

I am a bit do as I say not as I do with this. I don't usually wear diamonds by day. I have to commute and walk almost everywhere, I just don't need the attention. However, I think a little bling with jeans and a blouse/shirt would look just gorgeous.

Mechanical or quartz, it's better for watches to be worn regularly anyway. This cw looks and its Deco-inspired looks is totally everyday-appropriate to me.

Personally it's formal for me. The fact that is it Harry Winston + it has diamonds. (like @papertiger I too am not accustomed to wearing diamond watches by day. My rings attract enough attention as is. :P)
Also, 99% of my family and friends are casual to very casual, I'm already a stark contrast to them whenever we go and hang out. I'm okay with wearing whatever I want with family but my friends are a little more financially sensitive.
So I'd probably wear that out to a formal dinner with my husband or family, to a gala or a runway show.

However~, at the end of the day it's all up to you and how you feel.
If you are in the mood to wear it out casually and if it makes you happy, then I don't see why not!

Btw, the warm tone of the leather strap, really compliments the warmth in the mother of pearl and the gold. It's a gorgeous watch.

Yes, but you need to follow the texture rules. This via Brenda Kinsel's book:

There are basically 3 categories of clothing:

1) Rough textures: rough raw denim or Levi's, Flannel, chunky big knits, lug sole boots -- you get the idea.

2) Regular clothing with medium weaves and textures, dressier denim

3) Fine gauge knits, silks--formal wear and higher thread count and tighter weave items.

Items can play with their neighbors, but cannot cross categories.

This is a category 2 watch---the leather puts it in the middle. If it had a gold band, it would be in category 3.

You can wear it with rougher things (just wear chunkier earrings and bracelets, to match the category), and the usual stuff in category 2, and with more fine wear--though watches are not appropriate for black tie affairs according to etiquette books.

So go for it. But if you get it---wear the heck out of it!
