Hi lovelies, I have apair of 1 carat total weight diamond studs in 18ct WG and have my eye on a gorgeous pair of 1.5 carat in platinum, the colour is slightly better on my 1 carat ones but the clarity is much better on the 1.5 carat pair…… Is it worth upgrading for the extra .50 size, will they look any different in size or should I just stick with the 1 Carat pair ? TIA

As the PP mentioned, if the cut is as good or better than what you're wearing, then I would consider them worth it. People are funny saying that .25 additional isn't noticeable - I can see a visual difference in stones at .02 (although granted, they need to be next to one another). There are solitaires that are .25 ct, so yes, IMO, that difference will be easily visible. Added to the better color and clarity, they sound like a great purchase. Here's Blue Nile's chart of diamond sizes, and I think the size difference between .5 and .75 is immediately visible.

I voted for an upgrade! I personally think a little bigger and brighter diamonds are so well worth it! I have diamond studs that I have been frequently wearing for 12 years now and I know how important it is to have a decent size and sparkle ✨ Good luck!

That really helps, you can see a big difference between 0.50 & 0.75 when they’re next to each other

I always wanted 1 carat total but now I want 2 carat :graucho: but I’ll settle for 1.5 carat total weight lol…… I wore my 1 carat studs for about 8 years constantly and then I got some halo diamond studs and they’ve been a bit neglected……. I did think maybe I could get the 1.5 carat and have another hole pierced so I can wear both:yahoo: Might be a bit too much bling:eek:

I just upgraded my 1.5 cttw studs for 2 cttw studs. My older pair were beautiful stones. I wore them pretty regularly for 17 years. At one point, I changed the setting from a screw back to a push lock with a martini 3 prong setting and that really improved the look. I will save them for my daughter. My new pair just fit my bigger lobes better and I looked at a number of stones at my jeweler before settling on the pair. They are GIA certified. I wear a 38pt diamond (.75 cttw) in my second holes. I love the way that looks. I did try on the .75 next to the 1ct, and that looked ridiculous. I just woke up one day and wanted something bigger. My husband did this to celebrate our 30 year anniversary, so they really mean a lot to me and I don't think I will ever change the new pair. The heart wants what the heart wants.

I voted to upgrade - like you I had 1 carat studs (1.08 ttcw), upgraded to 1.60 ttcw studs via my jeweller (which was a mistake as he misrepresented the clarity/colour which I only discovered when I later tried to sell them) and then finally upgraded via Blue Nile to my current 1.62 ttcw studs. I love them and they are excellent quality: ideal cut, VS2 clarity, D colour, GIA triple excellent. I also ran them through the HCA calculator before making a decision:

I would love 2 ttcw studs but don’t feel it is worth the additional expense now for what would be a really small size difference.

If you decide to upgrade I would recommend asking for advice about the stones on here as well as looking at the boards on Pricescope to make sure they are really good diamonds. It’s so easy to trust a jeweller like I did with my first ‘upgrade’ but you can only go on what they tell you.

I went from 0.5cts to 0.71 CT’s each and there was a huge difference in size. I also went with a better cut and they are far more sparkly than the 0.5cts.

you should try them on at a store to get a sense for size. I have pretty small earlobes and I wouldn’t go any bigger but I love the 0.7 size!

I vote to upgrade to 1.80 if possible as that will give you the size difference that your looking for. This is what I did when I went from 50 pointers to 90 pointers and the look was stunning. I might have pics from that size as I upgraded again. Will look and if I do I will post so you can get a visual

Here they are. 1.80 carat in first hole and 1 carat in second hole. So first hole is .90 pointers and second is .50 pointers.
