I own a gold datejust 26mm rolex with a champagne face with diamond numbers. I got it when I turned 15 years old I t was my mothers and she gave it to me. Now I am thinking of trading it for a Brand New two tone with champagne face. my gold rolex is circa 1984 so its pretty vintage. I am going to college next year and I feel like a gold rolex would be too much to wear everyday. What do you girls think?
Sorry for the poor image quality I took this pic with my phone.

^^Can't see your picture.

My advice.....don't trade it for a brand new two tone! PLEASE!! My mother wanted to pass me her all gold Rolex she received for her 25 years of service. I was too young to appreciate it, that was probably 6 years ago. She is not into jewellery and bags so she kept it for 2 years and then decided to sell it off since I didn't want it. She did not even once wear it. She used the money to invest in stocks (her favourite) and bought me an Omega.

Now that I got my own two-tone Rolex 2 years ago, I regretted telling my mom to sell it. The price has gone up so much and what she got during that time can barely buy a two-tone Rolex without diamonds today. Now I yearn for an all gold but it has gone way way out of my budget that I would not put in the money for an all gold. It used to be retailed at around USD10K, she sold it for USD5.6K and now an all gold is worth USD15K!

I would rather keep the all gold and save money for a two-tone.

No way!!! First - don't think so short term. Second - it was your Mother's. And last - a gold watch is worth so much more than a two-tone.

Agree with nvie - keep it and save money for another one.

Keep it. Its always good to have an all gold watch. All my watches are stainless and really want a gold one. I've never been a fan of two tone watches.

Since it'll never go out of style and your mom gave it to you is the most important reason to keep it.

Definitely keep it ! It's got sentimental value, and everyone needs a staple gold watch in their jewellery box.

I also prefer the look of the gold over the two tone !

Keep it! Please don't sell it. My advice would be to wear that Gold Rolex with pride. Gold rolexes are a classic and also happen to be very in style these days. (Check out the Celebrities with Rolexes thread with pics of Elle McPherson, Kelly Bensimon and other fashionistas for some inspiration). However, if you feel like you are too young to wear it now, or think it's too flashy to wear as a college student, perhaps get another watch to wear in the meantime. But definitely keep it, or you will have major regrets later on (as the price becomes more and more prohibitively expensive, etc).

I love my gold watch but I want a watch I won't feel akward wearing it on the subway in NYC. So I thought about the rolex two tone withthe new jubilee bracelet. But at the same I want my gold rolex for dressier days. Is it safe to wear a gold rolex in the subway? I have saved $3200 from babysitting and I wanted to buy a Hermes Lindy bag, so I could have both. O was also thinking of buying a preowed two tone and financing it so I could het the purse and the watch and keep my gold rolex. I need help ladys!!

Barbie, I highly recommend you keep the watch. I promise you will regret it someday. I may be in the minority, here on a purse forum, but I also I wouldn't spend so much money on a hermes bag at this time. Buy a nice all steel watch, used rolex or cartier, or use your phone and don't wear a watch, and get a less expensive bag. Save the gold rolex for when you feel comfortable wearing it and enjoy college!!

I wouldn't worry too much about wearing a nice watch on the NYC subway. I see people do it all the time. If you're worried about your safety, just take normal common-sense precautions - If it's late at night (or after 9 PM), I would opt for a cab. As a young female, I would do that regardless of whether I were wearing a nice watch.

If you still want a watch in addition to the one you have, then by all means go ahead and get another one. Just as long as you don't sell the one you have. The Hermes bag sounds cute, too, if you are know you'll get a lot of use out of it. It is, however, a lot to spend on a bag as a college student, so if you get it, just be sure it's something that you'll really use. I found that my inexpensive Longchamp Canvas tote ended up being my most useful college bag, as it could withstand wear and tear from lugging all my books around. If you are deadset on the Hermes , though, and know you will get a lot of use out of it, then go for it.

GL in your decision, let us know what you decide!

Keep it! It was your mother's watch and after your study you might appreciate it more. Buy a Swatch if you need a watch that you can wear in the Subway and at university.

OP - I was in a similar situation not long ago. My mum has had her all-gold Rolex for around 20 years and is planning to give to me for my 30th birthday. I really didn't want it because I NEVER wear gold but after much deliberation, I will probably accept it.

Going by all the comments you've had so far I agree that it has such sentimental value and it's such a classic. Gold will appreciate in value too!

The only thing I worry about is getting robbed :( I take the train into work (London) and my is freaking out that someone will hurt me to get the watch.

Definitely keep it!!! I got a gold watch from my grandmother and it is not a Rolex, but for purely sentimental reasons I cherish it together with all the jewelry she gave me. I'd probably never wear any of it, but could not possibly sell it - it would break my heart. Whatever is in style right now will change as the time goes by, but once you let it go you'll definitely regret it in the future and wish you'd kept it.
