I got these jeans for super cheap at TJ Maxx - Gap jeans from a special Cone Denim line - valued originally at over $80. I decided to wash them before wearing. I washed on gentle cycle and line dried. After they dried I discovered this nasty damage right on the side of the crotch in front. I figured this wouldn't be easy to repair so I'd bring them back and tell the truth. They said they won't take them back after they've been washed.
So - I can just write them off
I can bring them to an alterations place but I don't have one that I really trust and don't know if I should throw good money after bad.
I can try to patch them myself
Or I can go to a different TJ Maxx and not say I washed them. The washing didn't cause the damage. There may have been a flaw in the fabric that came out when they were agitated in the washer but I didn't do this.
Any suggestions?
