Would you get the Hermes x Apple AirTag?

The luggage tag doesn't make sense to me. I suppose you could track a checked bag if an airline loses it, but I'd be more inclined to hide the AirTag in the lining then, to keep it safe from thieves.

My biggest issue with H x Apple is that Apple is all about obsolescence, so soon there will be a new, improved AirTag that doesn't fit into my expensive keychain

I'm keeping my 300 $.
I read a long article about the air tag this morning and still cannot understand how it works and... and just, what's the point.
I forgot, I have no Iphone ^^

The AirTag needs Apple products that run the FindMy app to function.
The first question is do I want this device?
It was introduced at the Apple event from Cupertino earlier this week.
The AirTag presentation starts six minutes in

Then you can decide if it would be of use to you and if you want to pay an extra $250-300
for the Hermes version.

I don't know the details of the technology
but I don't believe AirTag communicates directly with the iPhone
The tracker communicates/sends a (gps?) signal to a network
the iPhone, or other Apple device communicates with the network
the app decodes that communication to show the location of the device

Using FindMy you can see the location of any if your registered Apple products when you are in a different place, town or country

Possibly another proximity system comes into play when the two devices are close.

Ordered two key rings, one for my house keys and one for the set of car keys that I share with my partner. Can’t wait!

There’s also a travel tag that’s only sold at Hermès and not Apple.

I just ordered 4 and will be using them primarily when I travel and put them inside each purse, hand carry and luggage. I will give one to my daughter to put in her backpack. This will be especially helpful when we are in Disneyland in a couple of weeks. I have some LV credit card holders with the keyholder latch that I will put the Air-tag inside. I won’t buy the Hermes tags until I see them.193834F7-2011-4755-893B-BAC15C200720.png

Since the AirTag (plus free engraving) on its own retails for $29.99, that means we're paying an additional - for example - $269 for the Barenia leather bag charm component, correct?

Hmm... can the AirTag be removed, leaving the user with just the bag charm? This Andriod user wants to know.... Honestly, I just want that bag charm without the tech.
