Hi everyone!

I'm going to be buying myself a present this week and I'm very excited about it! I've had my eye on the Ophidia in the shell style as I love the vintage vibe and it suits my more casual lifestyle and personal style... but I also wouldn't feel great about buying anything too trendy.

Would you consider the Ophidia line to be classic or a passing trend?

Thanks so much in advance for your input!

More classic than other stuff Gucci is producing these days, but as a whole I think Gucci is going through a phase.

I'm not sure how you feel about vintage but I'd be tempted to find the vintage equivalent of the Ophidia. A friend uses a 30++ year old monogrammed Gucci tote and it's a stunner.

Thank you for your input! I love the bag, but I have reservations so I'm torn.

I love this line. Yes it’s trendy now but it has a classic vibe. I think if you’re unsure you should pass. Have you tried it? That may be the test if you try it and can’t walk away.

I'm in love with it, but I keep reading things here about quality issues and I just don't want to spend that much money on a bag that might just be trendy. Personally, I feel like if LV monogram has stayed timeless, why not Gucci? I'm leaning toward going for it because I just think the bag is SO gorgeous. I also love that I haven't seen many people with it. This would be my first Gucci bag as I've only bought LV and Chanel previously.

Oh I definitely think Gucci logo is timeless. I have a vintage tote inherited from my aunt who purchased the bag in Rome many many years ago. I wear it for work sometimes (it’s large). It doesn’t go out of style. Many members have Gucci bags that have lasted many years. I have one from the late 1990s(not logo) I still wear.

I have seen on here some quality issues with ophidia but in general I think Gucci has great quality. I bought an ophidia wristlet which I posted somewhere on here. Real cute. Good luck!

So excited for you! Which shell design are you refering to? Is it the dome shape? Share it here when you got it! Great question you put here and I interested in the line too, but the rectangular one with a front zip. I always thought the Ophidia is a classic design but found out recently it is not, and in the 90s it is not called the Ophidia. But I totally think it looks classic.

I hope I'm not hijacking this thread, the Ophidia caught my eye when I was in the store last month to look at the Dionysus and Marmont. I thought that the Ophidia is a classic Gucci but now I know it is recently revived. I was drawn to it when it was popular years ago. Recently I saw the youtuber mel in melbourne talking about her vintage Ophidia small shoulder bag and couldn't stop thinking about it. Somehow the vintaged one looked better, the leather looks darker and the front zipper more classy. But I would probably get the current one in store as it is hard to find a vintage one. The retail price is so high, which is why I have to stop and consider.
