I saw a pair of simple in water snake and I can't stop thinking about them. I looooove that particular water snake. BUT, I am not crazy about the "simple". I don't work in a set up which requires me to wear the traditional executive business attire so rationalizing that this can be worn for work is not an option.

I don't think they have the water snake in anything else. And the only other style in the water snake that I am aware of is the Alta Dama, which although extremely sexy, knowing myself, they wont get worn much at the end of the day.

Would you compromise on style for the material that you just absolutely love?

Hmm that's a tricky one.

If I liked the style it came in enough to wear then I think I would. It's probably affecting me that I like the simples though and I can't wear the Altadamas as they're too high. Is it the simple 100 ?

I guess the other option would be to see if you can SO them in your favourite style

i think they are 100 from how they felt when i tried them last. well, the problem is, since they are not CL specialists, they do not know the various styles or what other styles they are going to come in (for the water snake). my SA is going to show me pics though. i was hoping they might have them in clichy/decollette. but i think someone said the clichy are only available in the boutiques.

i am going back there this week to try the simples again. i was kinda biased against them when i first tried them on, so i did not give them the time that they deserve. now i want a second look!

Only if I would wear the compromise enough to justify the sacrifice. Have you thought of a Special Order instead? It will cost you a premium of an extra 30%, but in the end it will be a shoe that gets worn---making the cost per wear ratio much lower.

As Aeross knows I just bought a pair I had to wait day after day for - my first CL's. I would have preferred them in another material but went for my second option cos it was too good to miss.

If you can wait for what you want I would personally. You will love it all the more and never be satisfied with something you didn't truly love.

Am I the only one who is sad for all the watersnakes? :tumbleweed: Yes I know what leather is!

I am so in love with the altadamas I want them before I even receive my first CL's. But the watersnake.....sorry guys :wacko:

i know about the water snake. but let's not even go there... :sweatdrop: i had similar conversation in a pearl forum, about how they took the pearls, and chucked the mollusks. and then i saw how things went rather heated in one of the bag forums somewhere when someone started talking about fur (i think it was about some bags which was made of fur)...

the thing is, i do feel guilty about these things if i think hard enough about it. in this case, the water snakes. but then i should really feel guilty about the pythons too (which can make good pets i heard?), and all the cows (i saw that they have lovely eyes... but i eat their meat), and goats (they made good pets too, yes? some people eat their meat), ostrich (not sure about them as pets, but i think they can be rather friendly. people eat their meat too), etc. and since i eat meat, and love leather, i must have felt not too bad about cows and the like being killed and eaten and their skins used, etc. so how do we decide which to feel bad about...? OK with cows but not snakes... etc...? i personally can't reconcile them really. not right now. i am sure each of us have our own time for such personal decisions and convictions.

having said all that, i actually have never seen a water snake in my whole life, and i am not sure i like snakes in general, although i respect some of them, so my empathy is admittedly rather low.

unless you are saying that water snake is an endangered species????

right now, i draw the line on level of sufferings: i do not eat foie gras and shark's fin. but i am not a vegetarian. yet. so....

anywhoooo....

special orders can only be made via the boutiques yes?
no boutique here. unless, i can order them from - say - CL's boutique in another country?

so 30% is around $300 or so? give or take some?

Always a tricky debate regarding exotic skins, but the Pythons I believe are farmed for the trade and snake meat is eaten so I console myself with that

I'd feel hypocritical too as Kid and Cow leather doesn't bother me and I currently own a pair of Ostrich pumps too come to think of it

I think so long as the meat is also used I'm ok with it all. Now if it was purely used for the skin and everything else wasted then I wouldn't be so fine with it

I watched a programme on caviar being farmed and that was not good what-so-ever, nor is foie gras

Every one has their own thoughts thought so it's down to whatever you're comfortable with

Anyhooo, I'd guess the actual amount of 30% depends on the shoe style, A VP would be probably more than say a Ron Ron etc

I wouldn't cause you probably wouldn't wear it. I'm getting a little curious though, are you talking about the New Simples or the Simples? Watersnake is coming in the New Simple in Nov and IMO the New Simples look a lot better than the reg Simples

It would depend on the style. I probably would with the Simple just b/c they are so wearable. With something that was more out there in style like say, the Very Noeud (sp?) no. I actually love the VN but it would be too much money for me the compromise on a style I didn't like. That just came to mind for an example.
