Would you change the clasp on a vintage Cartier bracelet to be more secure, or keep it original to the vintage model?
The clasp opens up sometimes on this vintage Penelope double C bracelet, because it is just a flipped over latch. There is an extra security chain clasp, so it never falls off, but the latch does open up occasionally if it gets caught on clothing. It is a complicated and hand-made vintage style clasp; a metal T, where the top bar of the T fits inside a groove, and a latch closes over the bar-inside-groove to close the bracelet.
Cartier can change the clasp over to a more secure and modern style, which would also be easier to use, but the original style would be compromised. Would it lose some of its vintage charm?

I would rather lose a little of its vintage charm than the whole bracelet; but only you will know it's not the original clasp.
I guess you already asked Cartier about the solutions?
Thank you, I would not lose the bracelet because it has a second security clasp (as is commonly seen on vintage necklaces and bracelets). I am leaning toward having it replaced and appreciate your opinion! Yes, I asked Cartier if the clasp could be made more secure, and they proposed changing to a new style clap, as they do not make them individually by hand anymore of course.

As long as it’s Cartier doing the work, I don’t think it would lose its integrity.

I would have Cartier secure the piece because essentially it’s faulty, and that has way less appeal to anyone in my opinion!
Thank you! I had them work on another vintage piece previously and the new and old elements blended seamlessly. I appreciate the input.
