Would this wedding band be too thin?

Hi, everyone!

Last week I asked a question about trying to find a wedding band to fit my filigree, Edwardian-style, 18k white gold, RB e-ring. Because it's got such a unique shape and no wedding band came with it, it's been hard to find something that fits nicely. In fact, nothing sits flush, so I need something with a curve.

For reference, my e-ring is VERY VERY VERY similar to this one, but with thinner shoulders/less width on shoulders:

After encouragement from all of you, I decided to hit the stores and try to find something that works.

I found a very pretty, 18k white gold contoured wedding band with .10 tcw of diamonds. It's only 1.6 mm in width. It is on sale for $499 Canadian(was originally $599 Canadian).

In one way I really like this---because a.) I don't want anything competing with my e-ring, just complementing it, and b.) I want somethign matches the width of my e-ring, which is 2mm or just under.

HOWEVER.....I am wondering if 1.6 mm will stand up over time? Will i regret not having gone for more bling later on?

At the same store I found another ring that's also 18K white gold, it's 2.0 mm in width, but it's more of a chevron style (pointy ''v,'' not a gentle countour like the other one) on sale for $655 Canadian (was originally $805 Canadian).

The thing about this one is that it's got more width (2mm) but I feel like it kind of equals my engagment ring, whereas the 1.6 mm lets me e-ring be the star, which I like.

My love the 1.6 and as long as that hold up pretty well over time, I'm good with it. It's just that others have pointed out to me that since it's so hard to find a wedding band to match my ring and both of these do, I might want to go with more bling long-term, or more width.

What do you all think?

I love the thin bands, but I just worry about the durability factor.
There is a very interesting thread regarding this very issue on Pricescope right now. You might want to check it out.

I'm envious of those with thin bands. Mine is 20 years old and at least 5.5mm at the widest. It has definitely stood the test of time!

I think the thinner band with the soft curve would be better with your e-ring. I've never much cared for the chevron shaped bands. I also think that since it's thinner, it's more in line with your e-ring and lets your e-ring be the star which is what you want!

I feel as long as you don't do hard manual labor with your rings on, the ring should hold up just fine. I have friends that have very thin bands and they've withstood daily wear just fine!

Thank you, Cady!

I can always count on you to give me good advice! In fact, you were the one who persuaded me to look for something better than the sterling silver/CZ ring....and guess what, I did! What I found is so elegant, so classy and I just love it.

Thanks for being my sounding board while I was hunting. Hugs for you, Cady! :hugs::flowers:

Awww.....no problem!!!! You make me blush!! :blushing::blushing:

Please post pics when it's all the completed!! I would love to see it!!!

:hugs:

If you were going to be wearing it alone, I think it would be too thin, but since you are wearing them together, then I think it would be fine. I'm so glad you found somethign! If you do get it, be sure to post pictures!

It's a gorgeous ring, very delicate and lovely. It's my style so I love it. However, the trend right now is to go with a more bulky look so it depends on whether you want a classic look or something more trendy. I personally like the trendy look right now too! It's up to you!

I know my parents have very thin 18K gold bands that still look like new, and they've been married for 30 years. So I don't think durability will be that much of a problem!

I would go with the thinner band because as you said, it wouldn't compete with your e-ring. And I just love delicate little bands. I have 2 1.5mm eternity rings that I wear w/my e-ring, but I've only had them for a few months. I sure hope they stand the test of time.

I think if you'll be wearing it with your ering and not alone, you should be fine. Just keep an eye on it. I don't prefer chevron ones either.

I'd go with the thinner band, I don't think you want anything to compete with your ering. As you said, you want that to be the star and for the wedding band to compliment it. I also worry about how a thin wedding band will stand the test of time but there's always the option of replacing it for 10 year and 25 year wedding anniversaries etc. I mean, you'd still have the same ering and to me that's more special.
