Would love input on what to do: I had my bracelet cut too short!

Hello, everyone!

I would love some suggestions from anyone with jewelry experience as I have virtually none. Last year I purchased a chain bracelet with a pretty disk on it in Positano. It was 7inches long when I bought it and HUGE. When I got back to the States, I took it to one of those Fast Fix stores in the mall to have it shortened. I think I got carried away because now it's only 6 inches. I have a tiny wrist and can wear it, but it's VERY difficult to put on myself, so I think I would like it a bit longer. Problem is that Fast Fix kept the links they took out (and probably melted them down for scrap since this was a year ago). I didn't think about it till later and regretted not asking for the links back. Now I don't know what to do. Can any jeweler just lengthen a bracelet, or it a huge deal to get the gold, link-style, etc. to match? I love the bracelet and the vacation it represents, so I don't want to alter it drastically. Anyone have ideas? Thanks in advance! :-)

You may be able to solve the problem by changing the clasp. I think your options depends on the type of links and how much length you are trying to add.

I sympathize - I had a bracelet shortened then broke my wrist. The wrist is fine but it's bigger now and my bracelet is a good inch too short! A good jeweler will have a lot of options for chains they can order to lengthen your bracelet. If there isn't anything that matches exactly, maybe go for contrast on purpose, so it doesn't look "accidental." I just haven't gotten around to dealing with mine. Good luck!

I would just take it in. They can add some sort of bigger ring at one end. They could also get you a different clasp maybe one that is larger or easier to open and shut. I'm sure they can help you. It may not be a perfect match with the type of link but that wouldn't matter to me.
