Hi,

Woudl appreciate your thoughts on the Cartier Marcello handag. I really like the styling and functionality of this bag, as well as the selection of colors and leathers. It is comfortable to carry and not too heavy?

Here's an interesting video clip from Vogue, with the Creative Director of Leather Goods at Cartier, discussing the Marcello bag and how it's made. (Before, viewing this video, I had this thought this bag was a tote from the photos, but it shows that it's more of a satchel, with a zipper inside, three compartments and a squarish interior section. I need to go into a Cartier store and take a look in person.)

Here's a Bag Snob article about the Marcello:

Thank you!

I was very interested in the blue Marcello that was out a few years back, but when I tried it on, it seemed a little "tight" in the opening with some wasted corner space. It was well priced for Cartier, but it just didn't move me when I actually went to try it on. Lovely to look at though!!

I have/had a couple. They are extremely lightweight and the leather is durable. The small size is great if you don't carry much - it will hold the essentials and has a long outer zip pocket for small things you need to access easily.
The medium sized one is a good size but I agree there is some wasted space on top. The bag is triangular from the side so you can't really put much up top. It is a good size for everyday.
I think the large size is the most functional, though it is too big for me so I did not buy it. I bought the medium in black with the lizard skin trim (if I'm not mistaken) and the small in blue jean which is a beautiful blue with a slight metallic sheen.
The handles of the medium are long enough that they can be worn over the shoulder by most, but since the drop is not that generous, you cannot access things while wearing the bag on your shoulder. However it also looks great carried by hand or in the crook of your arm. Overall I find it to be a lovely bag, a little different from the usual, but classic and timeless.
