I was horrified this morning as I was unwrapping my handbags so I could take pictures for my fellow PF'ers.

The black leather straps on my white Cambon Chanel tote had transfered onto the bag! OMG I almost had a heart attack. I know that's an overstatement, but I have only carried this bag once since I got it last summer. You don't know me, but I treat all of my bags like they are pieces of art and take very good care of them.

I called Chanel boutique and they said to bring it in and they will send it off to be cleaned or dyed. Have any of you ever had this happen to you? How did Chanel handle your situation? The reason why I'm asking this is because it happened to my mom's LV Houston Vernis bag. They sent it off for repair and they said that because the bag was 7 years old (it was in excellent condition for a 7 year bag) that there was nothing they could do. I'm just so scared that they are not going to even repair it for me. Any advice would be appreciated gals.

I am also wondering, why don't they tell you how to package the bag for storage when you buy it? Do you guys think it could be a defect?

Jill, That is terrible. I know you have a handbag closet so it was not near humidity. I am starting to really question the quality of these handbags. We are all paying high prices, but the quality seams to be going down hill.

I had something like this happen with a vintage Chanel bag and they sent it out and they redied the bag and it was perfect. The only thing is it is a different die and it makes the leather stiff and ruff. Once you ise it it gets softer.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Well, if you can try saddle soap, that appleguard or the monkey shines stuff everyone has talked about.
I can't endorse this for everyone, but if all else fails, I once cleaned a bag with ultra-shine armorall, you know, for cars. It worked. I wouldn't want to risk telling anyone else to do it, though. This happened during the following scenario:
I called LV store at King of Prussia about water spots and they said to me, well I would just have to wait until the bag darkened and the armorall did the trick.
Also, maybe a very diluted version of Oxiclean if the part that looks dirty is white. Desparate times call for desparate measures.
Good Luck, sweetie!

This is awful! I was thinking about getting a white Cambon myself. The bag is too costly for things like this to be happening :-(

I hope you can get this out Rubygirl. Please keep us posted.
