will silver hardware clash with my yellow gold jewelry?

  1. Hi all. I adore yellow gold jewelry and would prefer a bag with gold-toned hardware. Ideally Hermes orange color with gold hardware. The problem is that most of the Kellys and Birkins that I see have the silver/palladium hardware.

How do you think it looks when someone is wearing yellow gold earrings, rings, watch and then bag with silver hardware?

Should I hold out for gold hardware or go for the more readily available silver?

Thank you, and hugs to you all.
  2. I don't think it's really a matter of clashing, just your personal preference. I wear almost only silver-toned jewelry, with the exception of one pair of diamond earrings set in gold, but I do have bags with gold hardware too.

The short answer from me is that a Hermes bag is too important an investment to compromise on something that you know is very important to you and your lifestyle--in this case, gold hardware.
  3. I am hopelessly old fashioned and have to match my hw and jewelery. I don't think it looks bad when others mix and match but I just can't do it. I feel "wrong" the whole day. Ugh, hate when my OCD comes out!
  4. Hi Cowbell, I don't think it matters. It's like the white shoes after Memorial Day/dark shoes after Labor Day "rule"--many people have abandoned those fashion "rules" and started doing their own thing. Personally, I love the white metals--but I would still carry a bag with GH.
However, I do agree with Cynthia--Hermes bags are huge investments, I would want a bag with PH hardware. (but you can still mix your metals).
  5. I'm so glad someone asked this question....I was faced with this dilemma last evening. I had on all white gold jewelry but the Kelly bag had gold hardware. I see others do it but I'm sort of like Rockerchic....somehow I don't feel just right!:confused1:
  6. Used to be that way, too, Ladies. I had mostly pall h/w because it went with my platinum/white gold jewelry which is what I've mostly worn over the last few years.

Then ShopMom talked some sense into me in NYC:noggin:and I came away with a different point of view....

So, several bags ago:pI started ending up with gold h/w. It wasn't something I ordered, it was something I bought because it came on the bag I wanted and I wasn't going to turn the bag down just because of the h/w. And if the little feeling of the hardware not matching slipped into my psyche, I remembered ShopMom's advice:lecture:

Now, I have about half and half.....and I don't pay too much attention to whether it matches or not. OR I slip on a gold ring when I'm wearing my gold h/w bags and white gold when I'm wearing palladium h/w bags if I feel I must wear SOMETHING to match.
  7. once in a while i do check my own outfit to make sure i match, but that is only me and my OCD too....cowbelle you can always turn the bag towards you so the hardware does not show when you wear your gold...but if i were you i might hold out for the right bag with the GH, they do actually pop up when you least expect it
  8. No, No, No and did I say No?
    (it won't clash)
  9. ^^I agree with Kellybag...I once thought that the metals had to "go", but you should purchase each piece whether handbags, jewelry to buttons on a coat by whether the piece looks good with the chosen color of the metal. For example, I love the stainless steel Rolex since it is more understated than gold and also I love the Cartier Tank watch in gold because it's so classic in gold. My H bags that I really love and use have gold hardware and I know that works for me whether I wear platinum jewelry or not.
Matching can look boring and look like you really tried hard to make things "go"...if you know what I mean.
  10. It's just personal preferance. I'm not a "matchy" person. I don't ever wear the earring-bracelet set...so of course, I couldn't care less if the hardware matches whatever jewelry I have on. But, if it bothers you...it's too big of an investment. Hold out for what you really want.
  11. I have been told by Hermes staff that although PHW has been the fashion for a long time now, GHW is slowly coming back in. I saw a 35cm Birkin in Epson with GHW last weekend at the Gold Coast (Australia) and am still thinking about it ... they do exist!

Eventually the one you want will come your way. If it's Hermes you shouldn't really compromise.

I have been told very strongly by a staff member at Fauborg St Honore that Etoupe does NOT come EVER with GHW, only PHW, because gold looks "ugly" with Etoupe. This is sad because IMO it's a divine combination - my mother had a gold hermes watch that I made her put an etoupe band on, and she feels bad now wearing it because of the "ugly' remark from the SA.

There was the most beautiful Kelly 35cm in Etoupe CHEVRE(!!!) - in short my abosulute dream bag - but the PHW was not to my taste even though the rest of the bag was perfection - especially the spine. couldn't buy it because it would annoy me too much that is wasn't what I wanted.

Ergo, I think they should match your jewellery. I have a lot of silver hardware bags that annoy me. So tragic that LV have gone over to silver on their epi line making it more casual looking - now I have to collect vintage pieces with GHW!
  12. I Personally would like the hardware to match I am a silver fan I only wear one ring not a jewellery fan

But my kellys are gold hardware so I just try not to think about it

I mean brown goes so well with black and it shouldnt really but it does
  13. Interesting. I am a bit surprised that an SA would be so...blunt, for lack of a better word. I can see how in some bags Etoupe could work with GHW.
  14. All subtlety was lost in translation, I think!
  15. Mix 'em, I always say! Why not? The only thing I try to match is my belt buckle to my bag hardware and that's only because of the size of the buckle on the Constance.
