Hi! I'm considering buying a couple of LV items (a bag and an SLG) preloved from Fashionphile. I hope to never have any issues with them, but if I do (for example, cracked canvas or glazing), will LV do a repair for me if I pay for it? Some boutiques require proof of purchase before they do a repair, so I don't want to run into any trouble at an LV boutique. Thanks!

Louis Vuitton does not repair cracked canvas. They usually exchange or issue store credit when a bag develops cracked canvas prematurely (usually within five years of purchase). As for other repairs, they typically do it even for preloved bags.

I think it is hit and miss with LV repairing preloved bags. Sometimes a SA will insist on a receipt or can look up purchase history.

There are many good Preowned LV bags out there that may never give you a problem. In purchasing LV bags for over 30 years both new and Preowned I have only had one problem with a new LV azur neverfull GM. One handle placement was very crooked and off by about one inch. I mailed it to LV and they exchanged it for a new bag. They also had my purchase receipt for it on file so I did not have any problems.

I would research the bag styles and see if they are known for possible defects that will show up. To me many of the older vintage bags are made much better than the new ones in the past few years.

I bought two Speedy bags from Fashionphile in the past few months. They were made in 2016 and both were like new perfect in every way.

I just had a 2012 chantilly I got from Fashionphile repaired by LV for free and they even upgraded the repair so the vachetta would all match. I was totally prepared to pay for it. I watched the SA click through my account to see what I had purchased through LV (not this bag) and then she showed it to her manager. The SA said that since the bag was so new and otherwise in excellent condition she would comp the repair and upgrade it for me! I was shocked as this was a new SA at a new store for me... my new fave! I love it when the traditional LV service and excellent customer service still exists! The issue was the leather on the strap near the hardware had begun to unstitch and tear. Not sure if the nature of the defect mattered in my instance or not.

So if you get a store that refuses you a future repair, try another store. And if you build a relationship with a SA through new purchases they’re likely to help you with preloved, too.

Do you think LV was willing to repair the bag for you because you have a history they can see of past purchases? Do you feel it might have been different if you had no purchases from them in their computer?
Great news on getting the repair at no cost to you.

Enjoy your bag. I had the Gm Size about 20++ years ago. It really is a great bag. I gave mine to a relative and she is still using it.

Hard to say... at that point I had bought a neverfull, agenda, a cosmetic case, a men’s wallet as a gift, and a Palm Springs mini through LV. So not a big purchase history at all, but something is better than nothing. What is interesting is a relative wanted a key case reglazed and a chape fixed on a vintage speedy they bought in ‘95. They had a small purchase history, but were quoted full price at two other stores. They were with me and they wished they had brought them in for this SA to look at as we all had a good vibe going. I also had gone in looking to buy a specific slg piece they didn’t have in stock and got put on a waitlist so idk if that helped at all.

The chantilly I consider a classic. The round shape throws me sometime because most of my items are rectangular or square, haha. I wish they’d make it in empreinte!

Every single store is different and even then every SA is different. I have had a very vintage (1982) Speedy repaired (new zipper) and they charged me $90. I had no history whatsoever with in-store purchases, but they did not ask any questions and took my bag for the repair with no issues.

Most recently I bought a round coin purse in store and I also asked to get a snap replaced on a vintage wallet. They did the repair for free - maybe because I bought something? Who knows and I did not ask. I'm a vintage/pre-loved junkie, so my purchase history in-store is non-existent. I plan on buying more in-store stuff in the future, and I think my best bet will be to ask for any repairs after buying something because I think they like seeing that you have history and will possibly comp the repairs if they see that you are buying in-store too. Just my two cents :)

It's like when a client wants an extra dustbag or extra box. I would always say yes if they were also making a purchase and always say no if they didn't buy anything that day.
