I am going to France in a couple of months. I’m going to be starting at Aix en Provence and end up in Paris. If I am offered a bag, do you suppose they will transfer it to Paris so that I don’t have to travel with it on my vacation? I think it would kind of ruin my trip for the two weeks that I’m traveling around keeping an eye on it, even if it’s in my luggage. I am a woman traveling alone and it’s hard enough to stay safe let alone guard, expensive acquisitions! Thank you!

Thank you. Being a foreigner in France and not speaking the language, that makes me a little uncomfortable shipping to DHL. I was hoping maybe it’s a practice that if I buy in one store they transfer between stores easily so that my purchase can just end up in Paris and I can pick it up the day before I go home. I can’t have them send it back to California because I need it to show in customs on the off chance they ask to see my purchase.
When you get offered a bag, perhaps ask the SA to ship it to your final destination hotel. Also I have experience in Italy where they shipped a non quota abroad and excluded the tax, thats another option you can ask them about.
Good advice, thank you. If they were able to process it minus the VAT in the store, I would love to have it shipped to my house. I’m a little leery of having it shipped to the hotel because once it leaves their hands, it’s my responsibility. However, if they ship it to one of the three Paris stores, it’s theirs until I pick it up and sign for it.
They won’t be willing to ship it to another store as part of inventory and if they did, it wouldn’t be yours, they could sell it to whomever on the other side. If you purchase it first, they also won’t ship it to another store because they don’t have insurance for it since it’s not legally theirs anymore and they don’t want the liability.
Do you have a relationship at this store that you think a bag offer is even likely? I feel like bag offers for tourists are so unlikely that getting one as a walk in is such a low probability that worrying about how you would transport it after that is unnecessary.

The last three bags I bought, one on each trip, I bought while on vacation in France. Two I had appointments and the third I was a walk-in. I was not offered a Kelly or a Birkin, but I do not want one. I did have my choice of most every other bag. I’m of the mindset that if it’s a possibility, great, if not, that’s OK too. Trying to get that appointment via rendezvous every night while on vacation is too frustrating for me. I give it one shot and if I’m in great if not off to Chanel I go!
If they ship it to your house in the U.S., you will have to pay duty tax on it upon its entry into the U.S. It is 9% tax for leather. You will get an email from the shipping company (Hermes uses DHL or Ferrari depending on value) with the invoice and a payment link to pay the duty before they will deliver your item. Plus Hermes will charge you a shipping fee, anywhere from $100-$250 depending on value. You will also have to be there to sign for it, so not sure how long you plan on traveling. Honestly I think it’s easier to just take it with you.
I imagine so. I’ve always brought all my bags home in their cloth drawstring bag in a carryon and packed around the boxes in my luggage. I just REALLY wanted to pack light this trip while traveling from small village to small village.
If you are lucky enough to get a bag, just ship your other stuff to your destination and use your new bag as your handbag! Voilà.

Anything is theoretically possible. But, the above response seems to be a well thought out and realistic response, made in good faith, to a number of long time members with local and FSH SAs. TPF isn’t simply an echo chamber for wishful thinking. (Though there are threads for that too
)ETA: FSH is sufficiently worried about liability that when I have my bag and RTW purchases delivered to my Paris hotel, they explained very kindly, that they could not transport, for example a sweater that I decided to take off (so that I could wear one of the H items just purchased) bc of insurance and liability. This is of course not the same example as that of OP, but it illustrates how closely hermes adheres to their standard practices. (For context, I have an FSH SA relationship that allows me to regularly pre book appointments for leather, but I am not a VIP in terms of spend or tenure).

While I can appreciate you taking up for your fellow poster, I simply asked if bags could be transferred from store to store, and the response from this particular poster was, how I read it, that this worry is unnecessary because I probably wouldn’t get one anyway. I didn’t ask what the possibility of getting a bag was, I asked if it could be transferred from store to store so I wouldn’t have to carry it.
