I recently purchased the small Hop and am also considering purchasing the large Hop as well. I stumbled across this version online on the Bergdord Goodman and Neiman Marcus websites and cannot for the life of me figure out why this bag is $20,000 when the large Hop is regularly $4,400. I do see this version contains some sort of hardware fastener at top the others don't have and the intrecciato weave is smaller but it appears to still be leather, not an exotic skin that would usually put a bag into this price range. What am I missing here??

Because that’s from their tosca line. The leather stripes from tosca are even finer and slightly padded so it takes even more hours to finish. Tosca is currently their most expensive line of bags as far as I know (excluding the exotic material). The bag you show here looks huge so I’m not surprised it’s priced that way, but yes, it’s insanely expensive.

I was looking at smaller Adiamo Chains and Sardines in Bond Street for possible evening bags (Summer wedding event) and then the SA showed me a Tosca Shoulder bag, all woven in one piece. I was not exactly shocked it was more than double the other bags' prices (I think it was over £7K (UK)) because I know BV is obsessional about the weaving techniques, all about the hours and the skill etc. I liked the weave, but it was obviously an up-sell move by the SA since I didn't ask for it, wasn't looking for black and wasn't evening-friendly enough. Tosca looks a bit 'heavy' IMO, I'm not sure it looks sufficiently arty/luxury/artisanal with the chosen styles, they ned to come-up with better model choices to showcase the weave.

Thank you for enlightening me. I did notice the weave was smaller and I figured more difficult to craft as a result, but 4.5 times the price of a regular bag?! This bag IS insanely large. But I have never seen any bag in that price range unless it's an exotic or Hermes. Now that I Google "tosca" it appears smaller bags are $9-10k and mini around $6k. It's a beautiful bag but I could not imagine paying $20k for it.

Check out the tosca at stores! They look even more understated than other intrecciato bags and the leather is so buttery soft yet hold the shape of the bag really well. It’s a bit hard to explain how it feels honestly so check them out in stores. The stores now just received some “half-finished” tosca bags for display to demonstrate the craftsmanship. And if you’re into this tosca style weave the stores actually have some phone pouch and mini poach that’s priced more closely to a Wallace.

I think the weave is or was called Vitellino Lisse. Really beautiful. If you search Vitellino Lisse in the BV reference forum there are some past examples and some info as how the weave was done.
