Why can’t some items be pre-ordered?

Hi all,
I’ve pre ordered the sweet Alhambra 6 motif bracelet in rose gold last week, and now wanted to order in the matching sweet earrings. I was told by the advisor that I can be waitlisted but cannot pre order? Does anyone know why this is case?
I asked the advisor and the reasoning that I got was that “the firm order (with a deposit) means there is a guarantee that you will get the items within 6 months. The waiting list means you might get the items but we don’t know exactly when. Sometimes it can be even faster than a regular order, but sometimes much longer. That’s why we don’t take deposit, as we don’t want to hold your money for too long.” But I still don’t understand why some items can’t be ordered in?

From my understanding, they will not take orders for pieces that are not currently in production. Not that they are discontinued, just not being made at the moment, hence no guarantee that your order can be fulfilled.
What I have never heard before is that orders placed with deposit are guaranteed to be delivered within 6 months….

Once the preorder list gets too long for a certain item, they close the preorders to allow them to catch up. Then down the road, the preorders will open again, you can preorder with payment and then it will be delivered in the timeframe specified by your SA.

Ahh - that makes sense. I ended up calling customer service to check if they can order the piece in, who also said that the earrings are not available to pre order (but some other items are) as they cannot guarantee when it will be delivered.
The part that surprised me was that the customer service person said that for items that they can put in a pre order - they will request the order (with deposit) and the workshop will respond whether they can accept the order. If accepted, you should get the piece within 30 days (this is in UK) otherwise the deposit will be refunded. That timeline was a lot shorter than I expected and much shorter than SAs in physical stores say as well.

Ah that makes sense. I hope the list opens soon for the earrings but I’m not that hopeful since customer service said that they basically haven’t seen the pre order list for it, and SAs said they haven’t seen the piece in store for a really long time. I shall wish for luck 🍀

The sweet hammered RG earrings were available to order on the website both yesterday and today in the morning. They sold very quickly. Keep checking the website.

Hi Pchul, I just ordered the same bracelet in person. I was wondering how long of wait time quote they gave you. I was told 6 months, but informed that it may come in before then.
