    On the Street
    Dress Whites

It isn’t even summer, and the white shirt and shirtdress are in abundance on the streets of Manhattan. There was even a canopy of hundreds of white shirts on Little West 12th Street in the meatpacking district. At evening parties, long white shirtdresses were reminiscent of Renoir portraits. The parks were punctuated with white dandelion heads, and the streets were flooded with sailors in town for Fleet Week.

[IMG][FONT=Arial, Helvetica, San Serif][SIZE=-1]Summer promises to be fashionably full of holes, with eyelet showing up as the latest retail confection. In accessories, separates and dresses, the lightweight feminine fabric — characterized by its whipstitched cut-out designs — can be found in an array of patterns and colors. Take a peek.
An OpArt oval print smock dress by Maggy London gives traditional eyelet a graphic spin ($158 at Macy’s stores); a simple shift by Vince makes summer dressing simple ($290 in white or black at saksfifthavenue.com).
