Which YSL: Lou or Loulou?

I think both of them are classic. But, they are so different and very different price points. My camera bag is my most used bag. I recently ordered a small LouLou but I know it would be used occasionally for me since it’s kind of dressy.

I think the loulou is a more popular style currently. Which one to get depends on how you plan to use it. Are you more casual, or dressy? Do you like a zip or flap? Chain or adjustable leather strap? I have the Lou camera bag and it fits my casual lifestyle. I bought the small loulou and ended up returning it bc I didn’t like where the bag hit me when it was on crossbody. But I liked everything else about it. I do have the puffer in small and mini size. Those hit me at a good length. You really can’t go wrong with either bag.

I just purchased the Lou camera bag because I realized a most of my (very small) designer collection is of more formal type bags, and I was wanting something more casual looking to wear more everyday. Also, after watching some YouTube videos of both, I think the Lou fits a lot more inside than the LouLou. However, if you actually want something a little more dressy, vs. casual, you might prefer the LouLou. It depends on your personal needs and style, but both are great bags :)

I think it depends on your needs but I am biased towards the Loulou. I have a medium that I so desperately wish was a small so would suggest getting a small or even the Toy version. Love the overall aesthetic of the Loulou so would definitely recommend that route. I unfortunately don't have many opportunities to use my medium Loulou but have a toy that I frequently use.

I have both and wear both. The small loulou is a lot more versatile. It can be dressed up or down. It can be worn day or evening.
The camera bag is open and doesn't have dividers so you can fit a lot in it. It's super light and the leather strap makes it really comfortable to wear. I used it as my go to bag at the start of the pandemic and served me well. If you are looking for an investment then Though Saint Laurent doesn't hold value like Chanel and Louis, overall LouLou is probably the best investment.

I find that size with Saint Laurent can be tricky and depends on how you like wearing your bags. For example, I have the loulou in medium which I wear double chained on the shoulder and I wish I had the small for wearing crossbody or on hips’ length. Then I have the loulou puffer in small which I wear crossbody, but wish it was bigger when I wear on the shoulder. I don’t have the Lou, but I have similar styles camera bags (like the Gucci marmont) which I wear a lot from day to night, casual or dressed up.

I think the difference between the Lou Camera and the Gucci Marmont is the chain strap. The Marmont is part leather and part chain. The chain gives it a different look and makes it more dressy. I have the marmont camera too (canvas) whereas the Lou has the leather strap so the look is always casual imo. The mini lou comes with a chain and I think it gives a better evening look.

On another note, I agree, the medium loulou is awkward to wear cross-body. However, the medium puffer wears well cross body. It is super soft and comfortable. I don't know how it looked and didn't care :) (was grocery shopping). But I will wear it cross body more now.

I also have both bags, and completely agree with everything HavPlenty has written. The small loulou is definitely the more versatile of the two, but due to the chain straps and rounded corners, I tend to baby it a bit more. The camera bag is much more casual, but is light, and perfect for running errands, and holds just as much (if not more) as the loulou.

Investment-wise, I agree again with HP. If/when you go to sell your bag, you definitely won’t recoup as much as you’d like with YSL, but the loulou seems like the ”better” investment piece.

My vote is for the Loulou because you can dress it either up or down, while the Lou is more casual. In terms of an investment the Loulou might potentially be a better choice since the design is unique to Saint Laurent, whereas camera bags styles are found across most fashion houses. Of course I'm only guessing. You should pick the style that makes you feel the most happy and proud to wear it!
