I recently got engaged and my future in-laws want to give me an engagement gift :) My fiance's mom said they want to give me something that I can always have and eventually pass down to our kids, etc. My fiance asked her at some point how much they want to spend and she said "it costs what it costs." Not very helpful :D We're thinking maybe around $1500-$2000 and I have a few pieces that I'm considering..mind you I haven't had the chance to go check them out in person yet.

Either a Tiffany DBTY necklace in platinum with whatever sized diamond would fit in that budget or the DBTY "Y" Necklace (not sure what it's actually called but it has 2 diamonds and costs $2000) or the 3 stone DBTY bracelet.

Or the Cartier DLDC necklace - size SM would def fit the "budget" but maybe even the Large size (.18) if we can bump it up to $2500. Orrrr the DLDC bracelet with the .10 diamond (I guess they don't have a "large" version of the bracelet as they do with the necklace?

So the question I guess is bracelet or necklace, Tiffany or Cartier? If I went with the necklace, I think I could get a larger diamond with the DBTY, but I looove how the DLDC bracelet and necklaces have the hanging Cartier logo at the closure. Also, I the idea of owning a Cartier piece really appeals to me, even if it's just a small one :D

So what would you pick out of the pieces I mentioned above? Or would you get something else?

I love Cartier too..I have a Love bracelet and a Cartier diamond band. BUT in this case I think you should do the necklace...hard to say which--DBTY or DLDC. I feel like the necklace is something you can wear forever and/or 24/7, never goes out style, can be dressed up or down and is just an all time classic. Personally, I'd get whichever you can get the biggest stone that you can get...but that's just me.

Good luck! Either would be fabulous tho!

DBTY bracelet. I have the pendant and the bracelet. I never take the bracelet off. If you find out that you will be getting a bigger budget, then get both the pendant and the bracelet.

DBTY -- but I'd have it made elsewhere to get a slightly larger stone that I got to select. If possible, finding a stone size that had a number correlating wiht maybe my wedding date or something... Does that make sense? So if you were getting married March 5th, a .35 stone. I dunno, something like that.

Or if you got engaged on the 30th or something a .30 or December 31st .1231 or something. I am just thinking out loud.

A bracelet is for you to see. Every time you look at it, it will remind you of the love of your new family. Necklaces and pendants are for others to see(you can't see yourself wearing a necklace or pendant unless you are looking in a mirror).

ooh very well said :D I think thats why I'm leaning towards a bracelet, so I can look at it and smile everytime I notice it. But my fiance thinks I should get a necklace because 'no one will see the bracelet.' Sooo I'm still totally undecided and now I have 2 more options I really like.. The Tiffany diamond Infinity bracelet (on the chain, not the cuff), oor the Cartier Love necklace with the double chain and 2 small diamonds. I think right now it's a toss up between those and the DBTY necklace. We're going into the city on Monday to try things on :D

I like the necklace choice myself. I find I can wear a necklace everyday but, sometimes skip wearing a bracelet. For a gift like this, I would be inclined to go with one of the big guys like Cartier or Tiffany unless they had a jeweler of their own they liked to work with.

Cartier has some beautiful pendants if you'd like to look away from cdlc. They have a double C charm that looks gorgeous and vintage. I love the love necklace (no pun intended). Idk I've seen from the price range you've listed some beautiful and classic Cartier pieces. I have friends who were passed down pieces of the love collection and trinity, and it's always relevant and never out of style. The dbty from Tiffany is gorgeous too, but I had shrinking diamond syndrome, and prefer it in .5+.... Otherwise the smaller stones for me personally are not worth the Tiffany price. I know how backwards this thinking is. But it's just my .02

Good idea ame!

I have a rose gold DBTY from Tiffany that is .17 ct. I wear it every single day - I don't take it off - I even shower with it on. It's dainty but beautiful and sparkly enough to wear alone - but also looks great layered. And it costs $1250 - so you could also get a matching single stone DBTY bracelet (the .10 ct. is $800). Hope that helps! Let us know what you choose!
