I know there were similar threads on this but i would still like your opinions.

I have a bit of birthday money left. I can buy a piece of jewelry with it, like a Tiffany necklace or something. Or i can buy a bag. Nothing too expensive or high end, but nice enough. The thing is, have an opportunity to buy a cute little Coach bag (brand new) at a great price. I have been wanting a small crossbody bag for a while, and the one i found fits my criteria. It's even in my favourite color! But TBH, all my bags are rather big n functional. I want a small one cos i dont have any small bags. Only i dont know how much use i will get out of this bag.

I will definitely get more wear out of a piece of jewelry and there are a couple of pieces i have my eye on. BUT, those.pieces will always be there whereas if i miss this chance to buy the bag, i may not find it (and at this price) again.

What would you do? My instinct has always been to choose jewelry over bags. And i dont usually spend much on bags; $500 is my max. But i've bought a few pieces of jewelry this year already whereas it's been ages since i bought a new bag. I've only bought 2 bags in the last 5 years and i usually use them till they are all worn out.

Well, that's a tough decision. I, too, normally choose jewellery over bags. But if you really want/need a bag, I'd go for that in this case.

Do you see yourself using the bag a lot?

That's my dilemma....I will use the bag if I buy it, but I will get a lot more use out of jewelry. I'm a stay at home mom, and I'm the type of person who wears jewelry 24/7, even when I'm at home and in my PJs. Bags, on the other hand, I can only use when I go out, which is not very often these days, at most once a week (not including trips to the supermarket, for which I don't bother with a bag).

I'm afraid I'll regret if I pass up on the bag, or I may regret if I buy it then not use it as much.

Sorry, I know it's not a lot of money to be agonizing over, but I'm trying to cut down on impulse purchases and be sensible with my spending. ;)

I would choose jewellery since you say you will wear it all the time!

Also, do you have much opportunity to use a small bag? Normally, small bags are less practical than larger ones.

Actually you have already had an answer in your mind, you said you don't like buying bags and you always wear jewelries.I don't like buying trouse and every time I found I was very needed for one and go shopping a new one but always came with new shoes or others at last.

I would buy one of the jewellery pieces you have your eye on - it sounds like your heart is not in buying the bag and that you would get a lot more use and enjoyment out of the necklace :smile1: I recently had the same dilemna as I had some unexpected extra funds to buy something nice with and while a bag was tempting I decided to finally bite the bullet and buy a HoF necklace that I have wanted for the last two years :graucho: Like you I know I will get a lot more enjoyment out of using it and it is also something I know I won't get bored with after a period of time, like I invariably do with the majority of my bags. I'm currently waiting for it to arrive very impatiently :woot:

Let us know what you decide though and if you do go for one of the jewellery pieces you are after please do a reveal! :smile1:

My advice would be to ask yourself what you would get more enjoyment from. Do you have pictures so we could see the contenders?

I would do the jewelry myself but then I am not the most practical :smile1:
My thinking is that the bag will wear out but the jewelry will go on. However if u really need the bag and get frustrated that you don't have a small one then I say go for the bag.

I had a similar dilemma recently. I had been wanting both the bag AND the jewellery for a long time. I did not need either of them, I have bags and jewellery. I went for the bag and am still rooting for the jewellery. Mind you maybe I'd still be craving the bag if I went with the jewellery. But deep down I should have chose the jewellery!

So there isn't an easy answer. Listen to your

Ooh, which HOF necklace did u get? One of the pieces i have my eye on is the HOF Beloved pendant (the one that is a cluster of diamonds and looks like a flower - sorry i dont know how to paste links on my phone). I have the Fulfillment necklace n i love it!

Only thing is, there is quite a large price difference between a Coach bag and a HOF necklace! :p

I got the Fulfillment pendant! :D Yours was one of the reveals that inspired me on here, I just think it is so beautiful. I held off getting it for a long time because I wondered if I could justify the cost but the diamonds are so beautifully cut and it is so sparkly, I know I won't regret it. HoF don't ship to the UK so I ordered it from a jeweller's here that stocks a selection of HoF pieces.

I haven't seen the Beloved pendant but it sounds absolutely gorgeous! I'll have to go and check it out now on the site :smile1:

Is the HoF necklace the one you want instead of the Coach bag? There is a big price difference but if it is something you really want it might be worth getting it. I love bags and it is so tempting to buy another one when I have spare funds, but I keep telling myself that jewellery is a much more worthwhile investment in the long-term!

I'm sure you'll love it!! I know what u mean about justifying the cost - I hesitated for a while before getting mine, but in the end it is definitely worth it :smile1:. Do show us when u get it. What size/carat weight did u get? I was wavering between the 0.25 ctw and the 0.5 ctw as both are lovely but decided to go for the bigger one first while I have the funds. But I still think the .25 one is very beautiful!

Yes, it is a huge price diff between the bag and the Beloved necklace, but I was thinking if I don't get the bag I can put the funds towards the necklace eventually. It is beautiful, slightly similar in style to the Fulfillment, but that's ok with me cos I do tend to be drawn towards the same styles (jewelry, clothes, etc). Alternatively I may get the Tiffany bow (mini) in yellow gold, which is closer in price to the bag.

Thanks for your input, ladies!

I have decided NOT to buy the bag as I believe I can find a cheaper, no brand but still decent quality leather bag elsewhere. I will put the money towards a jewelry item instead. :smile1:
