I love archival designs for their story and timelessness, so was happy to purchase a vintage bamboo 1947. However, the bamboo handle is ever so slightly expanded wider and that small detail (not even flaw) drives me crazy. I’m thinking of consigning and purchasing a new (old) bag with a slightly straighter handle.

However! While in Amalfi, I took a boat to Positano and sat next to the chicest woman who was carrying a vintage tote with the bamboo handle. I loved how carefree and unfussy it looked with her outfit and have been thinking of it ever since.

Then last night, I saw one of my favorite influencers on Instagram post a selfie with a bamboo Jackie under her arm. I love this flatter style and think it would be great with more casual outfits.

So now I’ve got three in my cart but don’t feel like I deserve more than one!

The problem is the old ones (pre '90s) have no shoulder strap.

I have 5 Bamboo bags, 4 are BTH, New, Bold and 947, number 5 is more like a basket. You don't want to carry bamboo handle(s) over your shoulder, you can trust me on that.

I don't like the Jackie with the bamboo at all. It looks completely wrong IMO.

What do you think of the new 1947? Is it worth investing in one to have the shoulder strap? I usually carry my bags by the top handle or looped on my elbow anyway. I love love love the brown color, but only on the new version.

You can get vintage ones with shoulder straps, they are all removable, they're 1990 or newer. The pre-1990 are fine too if you don't mind. My larger Hermes Kelly has no strap (never had) I don't miss it, but I would miss one with my bamboos. There was also the New BTH, the handle is further down towards the bag (2010-15). I have 2 x NBTH, 1 x Bold NBTH, 1 BTH 1947. The bamboo held by the metal hw are thought to be more stable than the old 'New' even though all mine seem fine *touch wood*.

The brown is fabulous. If you can find one, get it.

Also, @papertiger which shoulder bag would you recommend to achieve that flatter Jackie shape? Bouvier? I love the Aphrodite but don’t love the big G logo. Glad I caught you when you were online. 🥰

Nice to be here  I'm going to change the title of your thread so we're not OT.

I have a Bouvier and an Aphrodite. As you may know I prefer the flatter version too. I think it looks a bit edgier (even though it was the original). I know what you mean about the Aphrodite, but the Running G on the is from the 1960s, and the leather (goat) is sooooo nice (as is the red colour) that I don't mind, even get used to it. You can also hunt for a Bouvier, mine was from 2005. Just be aware lots of resellers call them 'Jackie' and add more to the price. In the mid-00-'10s there were some really beautiful examples. They brought the New Jackie out around the 2010s, the original back Jackie 2012 (with the extra piece in the strap) and fazed- out the Bouvier.
