Hello,

I saw two used Tiffany Setting rings, both I could get for a good price.

Both rings are unworn and the diamond certificate is included. With the 2nd ring there is also the proof of purchase.

Since I am color sensitive, I would like a ring in the color D, E or F. And it should be the Tiffany setting, as I am a big Tiffany fan and already own a lot of Tiffany jewelry.

The only question is which one should I buy, whether I should even take one of the two rings, since the respective HCA score is not optimal.

Which of the two rings has the better cut in terms of fire and sparkle?

Ring 1:
Hca: 2.5
Carat: 0.24
Color: D
Fluor: none
Clarity: VVS2
Total Depth Percentage: 62.3
Table: 56.6
Crown Angle: 35.1
Pavillon Angle: 41.0
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Girdle Finish: faceted

Ring 2:
Hca: 2.8
Carat: 0.26
Color: D
Fluor: none
Clarity: VVS2
Total Depth Percentage: 60.9
Table: 59
Crown Angle: 33.5
Pavillon Angle: 41.2
Girdle: Medium to slightly thick
Girdle Finish: faceted

Did you see the actual Tiffany reports for these diamonds?
For some reason, I thought Tiffany gave pavilion % and not the angle on their reports?
Granted, I haven't seen one in a while so I could be remembering incorrectly.

I would take diamond #1. The table is too wide at 59% in the second diamond for my liking; it should not be more than 57%. Also, unless you are hung up on a D VVS2, in my opinion, you are paying a lot for a .24ct stone. I would shop around more and try to live with a E/F color and as low as a VS2.

With regards those two diamonds, I would like to share a few more thoughts so you have other point of views...
If you are hung up on specs of color and clarity, I would go for a D IF. The D VVS2 is kind of in no man's land for me, and you are paying a very high premium for it with no credit. It's like getting a grade of B+, it's still not an A. Close, but no dice. I would pay the extra to get a D IF for your .24ct. Otherwise, I would go a bit lower in color and clarity to get a bigger stone, maybe .35ct I think? Your naked eye will not see a VVS2 vs. a VS2, and that is an emotional decision. If emotionally, you need that perfection, then go for IF. I hope that made sense.

Last thought... there are a lot of fake Tiffany rings out there. Every diamond has a serial number, so you should see if you can get it verified it's the real deal. I read somewhere the Tiffany engagement ring is the most faked item on eBay, so please be careful. For me, I prefer to get it at the store as anytime you service it, your ring purchase will be on file. If you can lower your requirements, you may want to consider getting a new one at the store. It's all preference though, and I wish you good luck, and, may I be so bold to say, Congratulations on your upcoming engagement!

Here is a chart I like that helps me to filter out diamonds. All angles/percentages are in relation to each other hence I really try to stay within these parameters. So far, it's worked like a charm for me. I don't really go by HCA score as I have seen good scores with not so great looking diamonds. I hope this helps.

Thank you for your chart. My son is looking for an engagement diamond and I passed in your information. These types of forums are so helpful and useful. Thanks again.
