I have a Macbook Pro 13 inch from 2011, which is around the same size as your 14 inch, if not slightly larger. I can confirm that it does fit in the size L, but unfortunately I don't have a size M to test it with. Given the dimensions of your laptop (31.26cm), it may be a bit of a tight squeeze in the M (approx 28.5cm at the base).
You're almost exactly the same size and height as I am, and I find the L to be large (lol) but not unwearable - it looks ok on a small framed person as long as it's not super overstuffed. It depends on if you're comfortable with large totes

Here's a photo of how it fits in the L. With the laptop inside of a lightly padded case (Herschel Anchor sleeve), the bag bulges at the base, so I'm inclined to say that it's not going to work in the M. If you have a stockist or boutique nearby, I'm sure they'd let you try it out, though.

Thank you, I decided to get L in black and use it whenever I need to carry laptop and for traveling.

As you can see, the laptop fits with loads of space around the sides for other things, but it is a very exact fit at the base of the bag if you add a sleeve/case. The L is a versatile size, hope you'll enjoy yours. It works well as a beach bag and a nappy bag, too.
the large is also great when you go shopping to carry extra bags or if you need to return something. I use the larges as every day bags unless maybe I'm out to dinner and then would use the medium or smallYou're welcome, great choice
