this has been discussed a few times if you do a search. get an air if you just do basic computer stuff (ie internet, word processing, etc.). pro if you do a lot of photo/video editing, programming, etc. like the name implies, pro are best for pros. air is a great computer, especially if you travel a lot.
Macbook Pro is also great for students and has an internal cd/dvd drive. If you have programs that require a lot of storage then you'll need the Pro.
Macs are required in my children's IB school starting in 9th grade. We haven't had to upgrade in the last 4 years, other than software/OS updates that are included in the education package.
