Hi!

I am interested in purchasing a new gray handbag for work. I came across two:

Prada double zip tote (in Argilla or Marmo)

or

YSL monogrammed gray leather shopper

I generally prefer shoulder totes! I am not a fan that the Prada is not a shoulder tote (not much of a fan of the strap either), but I always viewed the Prada as much more of a classic and timeless investment piece. This will be my first time buying a $2500 handbag--I would like it to stand the test of time.

Do any of you think the YSL is too trendy/will go out of style later? I think YSL is a gorgeous bag also but don't see it being as timeless as the Prada. I'm also not 100% in love with the chevron quilting. However the Prada is also beautiful but not sure if the top handle will bother me long term since this will be a work tote.

Which bag strikes you more? The Prada or YSL?

Thanks in advance everyone! Feedback appreciated!

I think Prada makes a bag with a shoulder strap that is very similar to the picture you showed. Can anyone else confirm that? I was looking for something like that myself.

If so, that may solve your problem.

The YSL might be a little trendy, but if you prefer shoulder totes, I bet the Prada will annoy you to death after a few uses and you'll stop reaching for it. I've made the same mistake a couple times and ended up selling bags at a loss because there was just no way I'd use them regularly. The Prada is definitely more classic and timeless, but since you're in the need of a bag you want to use on a (I assume) daily basis, function wins over form. Go with the YSL, or wait till you find a bag you love the look of AND is practical for your lifestyle.
