Hi TPF'ers! I just officially made my first Chanel bag purchase today (First one was a Caviar WOC in black so I don't think that counts) and as you can imagine, I'm beyond ecstatic to bring him home.

However I'm having my doubts with the lambskin leather and absolutely terrified of getting marks/scratches! I don't really plan to use him that often, just for special occasions and weekend brunch dates.

It got me thinking - I would like to own at least one lambskin bag in my life and if I returned it, I would be facing this dilemma in years to come for the classic flap bags as well.

Do you guys think I should keep this bag in lambskin & which styles do you prefer in lambskin and caviar?

My future wish list is as per below for reference:
- Chanel mini square in beige (not sure which hardware yet)
- Chanel Small or Medium Classic Flap in GHW

TIA xx

Congrats on your first Chanel bag! Your boy is beautiful!

I think my preference differs from most others. My boys and are all in goat, calf or caviar because I fear the wear of lamb on the corners and under the flap of the boy. It seems that boys in lamb have a tendency to wear more than classic flaps or other styles in lamb. I have seen and read about many lamb boys that have worn beautifully, but my experience when wearing boys is that they swing around and get banged around a bit more than my other styles. Another contributing factor for me is that I tend to wear my boys in more casual situations. I prefer minis in caviar for the same reasons. Larger bags (CF Jumbo, etc.) I prefer in lamb because it makes them lighter and they don't swing around much since I tend to wear them with the strap doubled and the bag tucked under my arm. CF in the M/L size can be either lamb or caviar for me, mostly based on color (lighter colors in caviar or calf and darker ones in lamb). Reissues I generally prefer in the classic aged calf for aesthetics and functionality.

IMO, it depends on how you will wear the bag and what it will be exposed to. Since you only plan on wearing your boy on special occasions/brunches, etc., I would think it would be fine in lamb. But if its a real concern for you, now is your chance to get it in caviar or calf since I believe both are available...and you can fulfill your lamb wish with your future CF!

Good luck deciding!

Lambskin is just divine! I got my Jumbo in Caviar and to satiate my lambskin desire, I got my mini in lambskin. I thought the smaller bag would be less prone to getting banged into something while carrying it.
You should be fine with you Le Boy. Enjoy!

Thank you for your insightful input! Unfortunately any boy in caviar/lambskin is hard to get here in Australia so I grabbed it as quick as I could  Next purchase, I will definitely go back to caviar for the mini.

Jumbo in Caviar looks gorgeous! Presumably it'd keep its shape as well over the years to come

Do you use your mini everyday or most days? I'm not usually a SHW kinda girl but leaning towards the cooler hardware for a more casual look. LGHW looks amazing as well but it'd probably be rare for it to come up next season with beige colours...

What she said. Lambskin I prefer on bags no bigger than M/L and ideally in darker colors whenever possible (color transfer is a very real phobia on this forum). I do love to get some lambskin into my collection in the right colors and style whenever possible because it's simply very Chanel in my opinion. Since you're trying to get a black bag with lambskin leather (very classic combo), the small flap on your list (sound like you're getting black?) may be a more durable yet classic combo in lamb as it would be versatile and luxurious in lamb for dressed up occasions too. If you plan on doing lambskin with the mini square beige (instead of boy), you might consider color transfer. I would personally do boy bag in a fun color with goat/caviar, lamb in black classic GHW, and beige mini square in caviar.

It's nice to have variety of leather/hardware/style coverage in your collection and Chanel lamb is divine. Good luck with your decision!

Can anyone suggest a SA for Saks that would be able to ship a Chanel bag to me in New Jersey. The Saks in NJ has closed and I hate driving into New York. Thanks so much. I am on the hunt for a black leather classic style:)

That boy is gorgeous! Personally, I think boys look best in lambskin, because the classic, timeless and feminine look of lambskin tones down the masculinity of the boy and makes it "softer" and more of a classic in my eyes. Defintely in black.
With that said, I completely get where your fear for lambskin comes from. It's more durable than it's given credit for, but then again, not as hardwearing as the other leathers. If you plan on using this boy occasionally, than I think you should be absolutely fine! It's black, so you don't have any worries about color transfers, dirt, etc. I use my lambskin boy a lot and not one scratch or dent on the quilted area. It's the outer bars and corners that you have to watch out for. I've gotten some light scratches the bars, but they could all be buffed out and cleaned up with a good leather lotion. They are no longer visible now, so I'm pleasantly surprised.

As for the other bags:
- The beige mini I would absolutely, beyond a doubt buy in caviar. Beige is not a color you want to deal with when it comes to color transfers, dirt, or watermarks. With beige, I would choose for ghw, 'cause it complements and brings out the color so well.
- The s/m, or m/l flap you could either go for lamb, or caviar. Lamb would look for feminine, but caviar is more durable. I love (the look) of both.

For me I generally prefer caviar and 5 out of my 7 Chanels are in caviar (including a boy bag which I totally agree that this specific style is better off in caviar with all those corners)..

But I'm also like you, wanted to have a piece or 2 in lambskin and I chose a metallic lambskin silver woc (my rational was that I'm only going to use it in special occasions/weekends) and a red chevron lambskin mini (rational was that it's a small piece, less surface area and less bumping around but honestly I couldn't resist how beautiful that mini was so I knew I had to get it no matter what leather it was).

It's normal to have doubts and thoughts sometimes even after researching and purchasing a specific item, but then I always remind myself that life is too short not to enjoy what I got because I simply loved!

Good luck!

I'm partial to both leathers but for the boy bag, the lambskin just looks better. As it stands, the structure of the boy is quite masculine, I always feel that with the caviar on top, it looks a little bit too rugged. I know that corner wear one of the most common things I hear about the boy, but to be honest, I don't have any signs of corner wear on my lambskin boy. I do baby him a bit, but I also wear him to work probably two or three times a week and so far other than light marking under the flap, it still looks brand new.

As to bags I prefer in lamb or caviar. Light coloured bags, I avoid lambskin, like everyone else of tpf, I am terrified of colour transfer. But on anything smaller than a jumbo in darker colours, I will quite happily purchase in lamb or caviar. My one gripe with caviar as of late is that the washed caviar seems popular with Chanel and I only like the look of caviar when it is shiny (rigid).

I'm the same with doubts every time I purchase a bag, I always think of what ifs and could haves, but I am a firm believer that what you initially saw and fell in love with is what you should get.

It really depends on the bag style and size for me. For larger bags like the jumbo or maxi, i prefer caviar. There is just so much surface area so its a lot easier for the leather to get scratched/indented. For mid-sized bags like the m/l, I like lambskin. the lambskin is so buttery! For smaller items (woc, mini) I prefer caviar. With the WOC and mini, since i wear them crossbody, they are more prone to getting dinged/scratched because I pushing it behind my body (if that makes sense?)

I would agree with @ironic568 on boy styles as well. I have lambskin in both my boys and I love it!

My Jumbo is from 2011, it's in pristine shape, I do carry it but with care. The Mini I use when I'm going to a party or dinner. If I;m standing, I can put it on my shoulder while I hold a drink and food. I use the Mini more as an evening bag when I need to be able to carry on my shoulder, otherwise I use a clutch. I prefer SHW, I tend to use GHW more for evening.
