Hi there!

I've decided to get a boy bag and I need some help deciding which one I should hardware I should get. I'm normally a gold person but I haven't been able to find a small chevon boy in gold. I'm not sure how I feel about gold on the boy either since the chains are so big; gold might make it stick out too much. I'm stuck between what kind of hardware I should get. I was originally going to get the bag in ruthenium but then after looking at many pictures of it, I think the bag may be too dark to go with certain outfits? Then I found one in shiny silver, its something different than what I have and I think it'll be easier to match. I'm worried that the silver will be too bright though. I've shared some pictures (they are not mine -- just using for reference), which one should I pick? I've been told the price increase in the US starts on 1/15 and the boy is expected to increase anywhere from $300- $500 from the SA that I've been talking to... I definitely want to make a decision asap.

Both are gorgeous. I have the quilted with rhw and it looks great with any outfit. I also have 2 with shiny hardware (not black) and I feel like it scratches more easily or at least more noticeably. Not sure if that factoring in helps

I agree with above statement - ruthenium hardware. I wear YG jewelry, but chose my old medium black caviar Boy in RH as it seem the most classic combination ( the code on my boy's tag started with REV which, according to my SA, refers to a permanent line). I had an opportunity to choose between antique gold hardware and ruthenium hardware and found RH black Boy less "out there" and more versatile (in my eyes).

I also agree that ruthenium is more versatile and is more forgiving when wearing other metals because it’s more muted and blends with a black purse.
There is a small black chevron boy with soft gold hw on fashionphile if you want to look at it before making a decision.

Thanks but I dont want to pay over retail price.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate your thoughts, I feel like I was so determined to find a bag before the price increase that I just wanted SOMETHING.

Yeah I wouldn’t either, but it doesn’t hurt to look for research purchases, see if you’d actually even like that combination. If the item sits long enough, it’ll start going on sale as well. There are fashionphile threads with more information on that.

But don’t force yourself to get something you’re unsure of because of a price increase.

Reactions: A bottle of Red
Hmm... I would look at this whole question differently.

My favorite hw color is lghw or champagne gold for almost everything.

But I have lots of bags with different hw colors. Sometimes lghw is just not an option and I have have to chose something else.

My lesson: Don’t be practical or overthink it, look at the individual bags and see which combo just appeals more. What looks better in your eyes? Does the silver look too overdone or does it make the bag pop? Does the ruthenium look too dark?

I have ruthenium on a black woc and I don’t use that woc as much. But I love it on my red jumbo (I know, it shouldn’t look good to me, but it does).

Whenever I deliberately try to find a certain combination, I make mistakes. Go with your gut. Does it make your heart sing? Does the bag just appeal or are you indifferent? If you can’t wait to get the bag, it’s a keeper. The winning combination will just look better to your eyes.

I agree

Go with the combo that makes you happy when you see it. At the end of the day, nobody will look at your outfit and say that the hardware on your purse is too "_____"(fill in the blank). People just see the chanel or purse (if they don't know what it is) and they admire it.

I have a boy bag in camel with rhw. It took me forever to find the boy that I loved. Surprisingly, I got it from fashionphile back when it wasn't outrageous prices/above retail price. It was in excellent condition and full set . It was the exact camel color i was looking for. The combo made me press add to cart instantly as my heart was racing out of fear that someone else was going to buy it. I thought I always wanted ghw on my boy bag. So you never know. I love it and make it work with whatever outfit I pair it with.
