Hi ladies, I'm thinking to invest in a birkins. I'm very new to hermes but I've been learning alot reading all the forums. What would you ladies recommend as a first? What kinda of leather? hardware, ect..... I like a very structured bag. Something easy to take care of and won't lose it's shape and can also be thrown around. I live a busy lifestyle and I don't want to have to worry about my bag getting wrecked. Would love to hear everybody's opinion!!!! :yahoo:

size 30 if you want a handbag, size 35 if you carry a lot
black, red,gold or etoupe are popular colors
gold hardware or palladium hardware depending on whether you use yellow gold or platinum/silver /white gold jewelry more
clemence, togo or fjord are hardy leathers

Box is beautiful and usually not recommended for first time buyers. It scratches very easily.

ETA: don't mean to sound lofty. it's just that other leathers are way better for "workhorse" bags. And box scares many people because of the process during which it reaches its patina. If you can deal with that, it's wonderful. Do a little search and you will get a better idea.

OOoooooOOOoo This is making me excited hehe. I want to have as much knowledge on hermes as possible before a make a purchase. I'm thinking either black or red or etoupe. Not to sure yet. What color did you buy as your first?

My first was Etoupe in 30 (Togo) - the leather is super hardy which is awesome for a newbie with a tot. I would recommend this leather over the box because I recently got a mini Kelly in evercalf which is also a smooth leather. It tends to scratch very easily so for everyday so a leather like Togo or Clemence might be more durable (and less heartbreaking to ding!).

I've made up my mind.... well not really but I've narrowed it down to two possibilities. #1 Birkin black 35cm togo/ fjord or #2 Birkin red 35cm togo/fjord. What do you think ladies? which one?
