Thank you for helping me along my yellow gold diamond solitaire necklace journey! I’m torn between2 bezel necklaces. The first, which I already posted, has a thicker bezel and is larger at 0.63 ct, J color, SI2. The one I saw today is smaller at 0.4 ct but with better stats at G/H color and SI1. Which one would you choose? Thanks so much for your continued help!

Alas, I did not think to ask. Do independent jewelers tend to have that information? I only know to ask about color and clarity. Thank you for mentioning that! I will definitely pose the question. What is an acceptable cut classification?

I would ask, only certified excellent/ideal cut stone are primarily dependent for maximum sparkle.
An inclusion here or there or a slightly lower color won't typically make as big of a difference as an excellent cut stone. It's a very reasonable question to ask to see certification!

Agree on the importance of the cut! It's a personal preference, but I don't like the thicker bezel, I think it takes away from the diamond. I'd go with the thin bezel and prioritize 1) sparkle, 2) size. Also, agree that color and inclusions are less important in a necklace, especially with stones under 1 ct.

Thanks so much for the input! I am really excited to learn more about cut thanks to you and @Swanky!

I had a thicker bezel for years until an unfortunate circumstance led to the bezel getting damaged beyond repair. I had it reset in a thin bezel and I like it better. I wasn't unhappy with the old setting per se, but now I feel like the thicker bezel kinda dulled the stone a bit, whereas now it stands out, if that makes sense.

Agree with the comments to prioritize excellent cut, then size. Color and clarity aren’t as important, especially for a pendant.

If possible, pick a diamond that you love and then have the jeweler set it in the thin bezel style. It might mean waiting a bit compared to buying something that’s already made and available, but I think the wait would be worth it.

I prefer the thinner bezel too. Even though it's a smaller stone, it stands out more without so much yellow gold around it. Worth finding out about the cut.

The choice of a thin bezel seems to be unanimous! @RJY I appreciate hearing your perspective as someone who had both a thick and thin bezel. I never thought of picking a diamond first. I did so with a custom ring I had made and it was a fun process! Thanks again, folks!

Good luck with your search, I hope the process is as fun as it was for your ring!

Thank you! However, I went in to Tiffany’s today to look at olive leaf earrings and decided to try on their DBTY collection on a whim to compare with the ones I already tried. I wound up purchasing a 0.25 ct H color IF internally flawless rose gold DBTY! The bezel is so thin and unobtrusive and, as you all recommended looking for, really makes the diamond stand out.

The Tiffany chain was far nicer than any I had yet tried on, and the color and clarity were superb. Also, they have an upgrade policy for diamonds larger than 0.17 ct. As long as I purchase something at least double the price of my initial purchase, I can put the cost of my original purchase toward a new piece.

I was fairly certain I wouldn’t choose branded jewelry for this piece as I have a great relationship with and trust several local jewelers. However, I fell in love once I tried it on.

Now I just have to wait to get it back from being extended to add jump rings at 17 and 18 inches!

Thank you again for the words of wisdom and guidance toward the most aesthetically pleasing diamond bezel! I appreciate it beyond words!
