Hi all
I am just wondering which bags or designers are better to buy new and which ones are better to buy preloved. For example I am after a Louis Vuitton neverfull but they seem to be selling preloved for almost as much as they cost to buy new. I have decided new is the way to go for this bag and just wondered other people's thoughts on which bags hold so much value you are better of just buying new. Thanks :)

I'd say the premier designer classics, or items that never go on sale. So speedy, neverfull, etc for LV, classic flap for Chanel. Limited editions for any brand too.

i'd go pre-loved for a bag that you know you have no chance of owning currently!
for me it would be the classic small chanel flap, haha head to portero and get it authenticated!
Especially if you want black, as it is very doubtful that they'll change their design entirely!!

I would love a chanel and think preloved might be my only option especially as they seem to be going up and up In value

Preloved LVs are nearly as expensive as in LV boutiques....So I would buy them from LV exclusively.
Very high end designers are another story.
I would go the reselller route, first because they might be cheaper but above all because I would be scared to scratch them and would probably keep them in my closet.
I would not be as scared with preloved ones as they would not be perfect....

That was true for me. I found a Chanel caviar hobo from 2004 that arrived in practically brand-new condition for $700 in February on Malleries. It retailed for $2500, so I got it at 80% off. Of course it's not a quilted flap as I purposely avoided those, so that was probably one reason the asking price was low. I wanted something that didn't scream "LOOK AT ME, I'M A CHANEL" but still a very nice, larger-size leather bag.

I've heard the quality of Chanel has sadly gone down in recent years as the price has gone up, so that's yet another reason to look for something at least 10 years old. My hobo is super sturdy, especially the handles. I can't get over how thick they are.

I will tell you what I told someone else in another thread ... check out Nina Furfur on Malleries. She specializes in vintage Chanel and has a good selection. Her prices are reasonable too, AND she ships free worldwide. I bought a vintage Chanel brooch pin from her, received it quickly and was very satisfied. Here's the link to her current selection of Chanel bags: http://www.malleries.com/chanel-bags-c-3745-s-2659.html

IMO you can get great bargains with vintage LV, the current designs though are overpriced on feebay and co.

I also wouldn't buy any Hermes on ebay, unless the condition is pretty bad you will pay near retail or still a price that's far too high for something that's visibly used.

Agreed. I got my LV Josephine PM in February on Malleries for $445, about 50% off, in like-new condition.

I never consider preloved when deciding to buy a cetain bag if I can get them for brand new or in stores. But it seems to me now that the preloved market has more options and a variety of prices that the sellers decide on. Some are stated as brand new, unused and price point more affordable than retail price. That feels tricky. One point that holds me back is, for individual sellers, how do I know I can trust that the bags are authentic? Some do look like it, but fakes are getting better and closer to the real ones.
