Which Alhambra should I get??

Do you like the extra long Magic Alhambra with the various size motifs? I think there are 16 motifs in total. It has white mother-of-pearl, gray mother-of-pearl, and onyx. Or should I chose the classic Vintage Alhambra with the 20 uniform size motifs in yellow gold with onyx? I'm torn, and I'm ready to make a purchase! Thanks for your advice! I wish I knew how to do a poll on these threads.

I had the same delima as well, but ended up with the 20 motif Vintage Alhambra because it is very classic and timeless. The Vintage Alhambra has been around since the 70's and will continue to remain a signature VCA collection. As for the Magic, though I do admit I like the style and the variation of the different size clovers, I'm afraid it's relatively new and may be a "trend" that might come and go. Since the prices of these necklaces are relatively expensive, I decided that it's best to go with something classic and timeless rather than trendy. I have not regret my decision since and am LOVING the necklace more and more each day.

Thanks for the advice! That's a really good point, the vintage is a signature piece. No matter how many knock offs there are, you can tell a true vintage alhambra. I'm glad you're loving yours!

UPDATE: I purchased the long vintage yg with onyx last night at Van Cleef's. I am absolutely in love, and don't regret my purchase.. but can anyone tell me if they don't make them as well as they used to? I looked at one about a year ago, the price was lower which is understandable, but it seemed heavier. It was the same piece. Am I just being paranoid?

I think the quality and weight are still the same. The only difference I've seen, compared to a pendant I own from the early 1990's, is the four "prongs" where the stones are set. They were not as "rounded" and extended just a tad longer. Has anyone else notice any differences????

Anyways, you made an excellent choice as the onyx is absolutely stunning! Congrats!

I agree with you. I used to have the older version of the single motif pendant & there is a difference in the clasp. It also had a little flat plate that had some of the VCA markings but I don't think the new versions have this. In regards to the quality, it's the same IMO.

Yes, Twigski....the clasp changed throughout the years...I've seen some that are very round (and slightly larger than the ones used today) and some are even elongated. The single motif pendant necklace still has the flat plate with the serial number, but it is rectangular in shape with rounded corners rather than oval. Also, I was told that they only recently started including the Authenticity Certificates (approx. 2-3 years ago).....no certificates of any kind were given out prior to that??? Can someone confirm this?????

I think the yellow gold on the newer pieces from 2008 are not as yellow and heavy as the older ones, and I compared them. and i actually called vca toll free number, but they said it's the same 18K. But I definitely see a color difference. Too bad i like the yellower ones better.
