Hi, I'm in Maine for few days (Prtland) and was wondering if there's any shop selling Hermes here.
Could you suggest me where to go shopping (like louboutin shoes or nice jeans)
THanks!!

Hi Costa! No H in Maine - Boston is the closest! Nice jeans - try Exchange St. in the Old Port area - there are several stores - one called Betsy's -- can't think of the other names but I have bought from both --- there is a nice shoe store called Stiletto but no CL shoes there lol!!! That is also on Exchange St....Have fun!

Thank you!! I'll try to get over the fact thet there's no H in Maine....(my DH just bought me a shawl back home, can't wait to see it!)

Don't forget you're in the land of LL Bean!! If you need a canvas bag, by all means stop into the store in Freeport! The best boutique shopping you're going to find will be on Exchange Street and a little bit on Fore Street, as well. Nelson Rarities is a great place to see some fabulous vintage jewelry. They've moved from One City Center into the Key Bank building right across from OCC on Congress Street. There's also a nice jewelry shop at the top of Exchange Street called Folia.

if you like FINE jewelry you must go to Nelson Rarities................they have unbelievable things and its not all 100,000.

Yes, you really should stop at Nelson Rarities! They are amazing and VERY nice. Prices are much less than at the famous estate jewelers in NYC and London (to whom I believe they supply...). Good luck with your shopping and enjoy Maine!

Re: Nelson Rarities, if I remember correctly, we phoned ahead to make an appointment. They might have moved since I was there several years ago, but at that time, they did not have a storefront shop. Anyway, although making an appointment sounds intimidating, it was not, and they truly are very nice.

Kipp, you are correct. They are in a high-rise business building and do not have a storefront operation. I suspect it's easier to secure the jewels in that setting. You are also right about how nice these folks are. They are very knowledgeable, not intimidating and have lots of fun information about styles, stones, and pedigrees on the pieces that they carry. It's worth making a call and popping in there. You can park in the garage at One City Center and they are in the building right across the street. It's also an easy walk from Exchange Street -- only a few blocks.

I am so interested to hear about this store! I'm in Portland for work pretty frequently, so I'll have to drop in next time I'm in town.

It's worth the effort. I'd call ahead and let them know when to expect you so that you're certain that they'll be open.

Ask to be put on their mailing list. They produce and mail a catalog around the end of November. Also, ask to receive an invitation to their Christmas Open House. It's usually mid-week and I think it's always been the week after Thanksgiving, but I could be wrong. It might be right before T'giving. It would be worth scheduling a work event so that you could be there for the Open House.

You can sometimes find an H jewelry item in their stock. I mostly recall seeing bracelets.

Thanks for all of the good advice - for once, I am now looking forward to my next meeting in Portland! (Don't get me wrong, I love Portland, especially in the summer, but it is NO fun driving up there to sit in a board room for meetings all day )
