Ever since getting my bag, I've been very careful about keeping it away from any dirty surfaces, either pulling up an extra chair for it at restaurants or keeping it on my lap if that isn't an option.

I'm taking some night classes and it just hit me that I didn't know what to do with it when I go there. The room is very small and cramped and there isn't enough room to sit with it on my lap without it scratching up against the desk.

For all of you who are in college, grad school, continuing ed etc... Where do you put your bags during class? The best option I've thought of so far is bringing a large tote from some store and just putting the bag in the tote throughout the class, but I'm sure there must be something easier.

I use a purse hook too. I don't like putting any bags on the floor except for luggage bags.

I usually pick a bag that has stud feet at the bottom or can take a beating so I don't have to worry. Otherwise I'd suggest either a bag hook or dust bag to put under your bag (which I'd put under my seat to prevent anyone else from stomping on the bag etc.
I've had my Longchamp Roseau tote with me practically everywhere, and if we are traveling I always make sure the dustbag is in the bag so I can cover it when I'm in a bus, on a train or eating out.

Under my seat.
I bought a bag that I wouldn't mind if any accidents occurred with it (Longchamp LP). I didn't want to be distracted from my classes to worry about my bag.

But dust bag/cheapy tote to cover it would work and just place under your seat.

You could fold up a piece of wool, carry it in your bag, and set your bag on the wool when you get to class - sort of like a picnic blanket for your purse, lol. That's something that I would totally do, but other people would probably think it was a little weird.

It's been a really long time since I've been in school, but when I was, I used to just set my bags on the floor. They were all OK, with the exception of a white leather tote that looked pretty disgusting after a year of use. Just stick to dark colors, & you should be fine.

i make a point to put my bag on the seat next to me, if it's not a crowded lecture! (but does that make me rude?) otherwise, i'll put it on my lap- can't bear to have it on the floor!!

For crowded lectures, I used to place my bag on the floor, hang it on the seat, or place it behind my back so it is like a back cushion (I normally carry unstructured bags so this worked fine for me).
