Hi everyone, hope you can help me with this. I was told different things about spraying the vachetta (to protect from rain, stain, etc). The LV SA told me that I'd have to wait for the leather to turn tan first before spraying it. But on this forum, I hear of people spraying the vachetta when it's still brand new. What is correct? And what do you use to spray to protect the leather? Thank you.

I know this is a controversial topic but for those who do spray your bags, how often do you do it? I sprayed my turenne when she was new 7 months ago, and now I'm going to try and start using her a lot more I'm just wondering if I should do it again or if just the first time is enough?

I've never sprayed vachetta. I did "wet down" all the vachetta on my Turenne when I 1st got her with a soft white cloth. She's been poured rain on & is fine. I didn't do this on any of my other bags & they're fine too :)

Sprayed my speedy b when it was new ( about 9-10 months ago maybe) and never again:) dont know if i will either.
Anyways, its handles are light, spotless and perfect, best decision ever, even though i was superscared at first:p:amuse::angel:

Hi
i am not sure whether I should spray the vachetta strap of my PA NM.I live in germany, we do not have this apple brand spray but there are other ones. So this one is more for protection against water etc.
Also interesting if there is something that keeps the vachetta as light as possible?
i have heard about the „loving my bags“ cream or whatever it is to help maintaining the color.

can you give me your opinions? maybe there are sprays who do both things? Or is this false?
what about general spray like that apple brand?

I can only speak to Apple Garde. I use it on all my vachetta. I believe that it helps to reduce the water spots on vachetta and perhaps slow the patina process or make it more even. However, I don't think you can keep the vachetta light forever if you're using the bag. I simply use it to try to minimize water marks so I can have beautiful, even patina.

I have had my speedy for over 10 years and to be honest, I have never used any spray or treatment as the recommended ones are not available in my country, the one time I tried using leather conditioner (one brand that is quite reputable in my country), it actually stained the vachetta. So I would recommend being careful with the vachetta rather than trying to waterproof it, as it might make it worse. Whenever I see water drops on my bag, I try to absorb it with a piece of tissue straightaway and I actually don't have many watermarks on my handles, I hope this helps.

I've always used Cadillac spray (can get on Amazon) for all my LV's & Chanels. As you spray it it appears darker from it being wet from the spray, but within a minute or so it will dry completely to it's original color. It will protect it from water spots and slow down the darkening of the vachetta. You can repeat occassionally - depending on how often you use the bag. The above writer (purseloverc) said she put conditioner on her bag and it stained it - that is because conditioner has oils like your hands do and that is what actually makes the vachetta darken over time. The Cadillac spray will prevent that from happening because it is a clear barrier that prevents waters and oils from permeating into the leather. There actually is a thread about this - at least there was about 15-18 years ago when I started buying my first LV's & Chanels.
