I posted this charm here a while back:

The clasp is the same size as the other larger fobs, so it works on some bags and not others, but pretty much on bags that have smaller rings like the front rings on the Madison bags, or Kristin, etc. If I need a larger opening, I replace the dog leash clip with one I get from the hardware store. I tried this one (or another large fob) on a ball chain, but it was too heavy and floppy. I didn't like that.

I do wish that Coach would consider this when making the fobs. They really don't work on most bags TBH, which is silly! Especially for that amount of money, but I'm lucky I got mine on ePCE.

This is interesting, I'll have to think about this idea. Are you concerned the chain will break and you'll lose the fob/charm? I hope I have understood how you do it.
I have never had any issues with the ball chain coming undone because I tighten them as soon as I get them. Since I don't ever take the hang tag one off, I guess a tiny drop of clear nail polish would also seal the little clasp for additional peace of mind.;) The way I use them to hang my fobs makes the fob clasp both ends of the doubled up chain, so it would be unlikely for it to come undone... I will try to post pics so you can get a better idea what I mean. Hey, if anyone feels insecure about her fobs staying on, please find a better alternative. God forbid, someone looses their prized fob because of trying my idea...:weird:

Thanks, baglady. I guess I missed your Thread...or I just looked at it and thought "too much money to pay for a fob/charm"...LOL!!! But, I finally reasoned that Coach just doesn't make that many charms in gold, and this one is especially nice, I'd better get it and not regret later. It is SO BEAUTIFUL, isn't it!

A tPFer wanted to see the charm on Black Gigi. The charm wouldn't fit on the brass ring, so I had to slip it through the chain. Hope this helps you get an idea.
