What’s the difference between grained and pebbled leather bags?

Can anyone explain me the difference I see them almost identical and I think they are equally durable but if anyone can explain the difference i would really appreciate it.

I’m asking this because I have the pebbled leather Mercer Accordion crossbody from Michael Kors and I’ve seen a lot of pictures of the Sac the Jour grained leather which looks almost like the MK pebbled leather.

is it the same with different name ir it is a slightly different treatment. Many women also say the Chanel Caviar leather is like Saint Laurent’s grained.

Thanks so much for explaining. So it’s the same but different ways to say it cool.
Anyway love this treatment is durable and still looks very stylish and elegant when you need it. Stafiano is good but too casual and doesn’t feel that nice at the Touch while grained it does feel as nice as smooth leather but much more durable and feel way less the need to baby your bag.

I love pebbled leather, Longchamp Le Foulonné leather is one of the best. Never had issues with it. Saffiano can break - I've had 2 wallets that broke - and IMO it looks so '01.

There are some naturally grained leathers. It's not always a treatment.

Pebbled leather can be naturally pebbled. Sometimes you will notice that the pebbling is not uniform, you may see veining, etc.

I looked at several different sources and they never mentioned this. I thought it was odd since I have a few bags that seem like they haven't been processed but the explanation offered was that graining is something you do for hides that wouldn't be useful au naturel/that have a flaw in them. Language is great for little white lies.

Natural grain is usually natural, full grain leather should be natural and is a legal term although neither may be particularly grainy in appearance but grain/grainy leather or pebbled/pebble leather are just descriptive terms for leather.

Pebbled is more of a marketing term describing the appearance of the surface of the leather and can refer to a range of leathers of varying quality from full grain like in a taurillon leather to a leather with a corrected appearance/and or embossed such as chanel caviar leather. Basically what @papertiger said.
