What to wear to the Rainbow Room?

I've heard that it's cocktail or evening gowns, but I'm worried about showing up looking out of place. Haven't picked the outfit yet. Has anyone been? What was it like?

Ooooh, sounds lovely! Maybe if you went to a nice store like Bergdorf's or Barney's and asked a helpful SA she could suggest something. I've found that sometimes the SAs in the fine apparel or more exclusive (for lack of a better term) departments of the store are really tuned in to what's appropriate for special occasions.

Are you just going for dinner? I would wear a short black dress, nothing too fancy. I think you could even get away with a black wrap dress and pretty shoes/ accessories
