What to wear in Europe? Advice pretty please :)

Hello ladies! I'd love help from anyone who's been to Europe recently, or better yet anyone who lives in Europe!

Next week I'm headed for a Mediterranean cruise- starts in Rome and stops include Amalfi coast, Cagliari, Mallorca, Barcelona, Marseille/Provence, and Monte Carlo.

To avoid looking like an American target I hear the standard no running shoes, no shorts. Don't be loud and obnoxious and sloppy (lol) Leave all nice things (jewelry, etc) at home.

First question- shoes. I have bad feet, I can't walk around all day in cute flats. I hear Converses are ok- what about Birkenstocks? Or my adidas all-stars (too big and white)?

Shorts and tanks out? What about shorter skirts? (Not booty short but most hit mid thigh).

I was planning to bring my Chanel WOC- bad idea?

I wear a diamond pendant and studs (screw back) everyday- leave at home?

I welcome any other tips too. Thanks in advance!! [emoji8]

This sounds like such a great trip!
My advice: dress up! And I don't mean huge diamonds and gigantic designer bags. Wear pretty clothes of good quality that fit you well and that are suitable for hot days and cool nights. Dresses, skirts, light pants. Shorts are fine, but I wouldn't wear shorts and tank tops and Birkenstocks. You might want to remember that you should cover your shoulders inside churches and some restaurants require sowmewhat of a dress code.
A WOC is fine, a large jumbo might be too much.
Stylish European women would never be seen in Birkenstocks, especially not at the Amalfi coast which is one of the most expensive areas in Europe.
Your everyday jewelry is fine, you might even want to take some nicer pieces.

This is the Mediterranean! Women dress to the nines to go to the beach! Nobody but an Italian woman can pull of a bathing suit, and lots of gold necklaces and huge earrings to spend the day at the ocean.
The French are more basic, but the more south you go, the more they dress up. The Spanish are more relaxed, especially the younger once. In Barcelona you'll see a lot of girls who could be bloggers, so I guess your Birkenstocks are ok there.
Advice in Barcelona: beware of the pickpockets!! Careful with the WOC!
Remember to leave space in your suitcase to buy tons of pretty things and enjoy!!!

This one is a beautiful Catherine Malandrino silk chiffon dress I got at a thrift store.

I also have several lightweight cotton blend shift dresses that can be dressed up of dressed down with converse, etc. (These are not my dresses, but they are pretty close. These are great bc the take up very little room in the luggage, look chic and you can even wear them as a beach cover up!

I'm from the Northern Europe but wanted to chime in.. If you have any problems with your feet definitely put comfort over style. The sneakers trend is still very much going on in Europe so you'll fit right in with Converse or the Allstars especially in bigger cities such as Rome and Barcelona.

Clothing-wise I'd recommend maxi dresses, linen (or other light material) trousers, light tops. Like Marylin pointed out, the churches require the shoulders and knees to be covered so keep that in mind if you're interested in visiting them. (I highly recommend visiting the Vatican and Saint Peter's while in Rome!) I think the shorter skirts could work as well if they're good quality and fit nicely.

Your WOC is a great choice that'll work probably everywhere. I would take the jewelry you mentioned if you're used to wearing it everyday.

One useful tip is to learn how to say hello, thank you, excuse me/sorry and please in each language. It shows you're making an effort and don't just expect everyone to speak English. It will probably affect positively to the service you receive. Also, French, Italian and Spanish are somewhat similar languages as they're all Latin based so that might help a bit.

From my experience, the more you try and look "not-American", the more you like one lol!! [emoji15]

Just wear what you would normally wear. Well fitting, smart clothing and you'll be good to go! [emoji4]

Don't worry too much about jewelry and such. I've traveled heavily throughout Europe and the only place I was ever "picked" was in an American airport on my way to Europe!

With that said, I agree about being a bit more careful in Rome and Barcelona.

I would wear cute short kaftans/ tunics with cut off denim shorts and lace up sandals.

Big sunnies, statement earrings or necklace and a bunch of little bracelets

Maxi dresses with flat sandals or havs

Cute summery short dresses-eg Zara

I'm from Belgium and I agressie with mapetitevie. Linen is a good choice. In Provence wonen wear lots of light linen dresses (mostly white, we're in Europe, we don't care about see-through). A nice hat makes every outfit cool. Lots of markets and small shops where you dan bug one.
I was at the amalfi coast last week, and dress code was similar. For shoes: espadrilles of sandals ( with or withouten wedges).
I would not wear jewellery with ly bathing suit, exept for gold hoop earrings.
I would keep the Channel for Monaco. For Provence and Amalfi, a nice bucket bag or even a fabric or straw shoulder bag is better.

Have fun!! I always go to Mykonos/ Ibiza in summer and the style is actually quite similar: a bit boho, accessorize (jewellery, sunnies, bracelets, lace up sandals) and since the sales are starting here, you could also stock up during your vacation! I also love buying from little local shops

The trip sound fab. i would definitely bring a few easy to wear maxi dresses and comfy sandals. I love fit flops, I can walk in hours in them, they have dressier slim version now and IMO it looks better than birkinstocks. I think shorts are great but I would wear it with sleeves instead of tanks. Its really hot in the Almafi coast, and air conditioning is not as strong as you would have them in the States. bring light and airy clothes. your everyday diamond is fine and chanel WOC would be an easy handsfree bag just to have your credit card, phone and cash. I would take a pic of your passport on your phone and keep the passport in the safe in your room.

Monaco & Marseille have cobbles and both will involve a fair amount of walking. Monaco is not like it used to be so unless you're thinking of going into the Casino or the grand hotels around, I wouldn't worry too much. BTW I've been wearing my birkies down here for years, no one bats an eyelid. Mind you I did see someone on the Rock in MC yesterday in wedges, you could hear her click clacking from quite a distance!
