I am a 41 year old stay at home mom. I live in the suburbs and my fashion style is feminine and classic. Talbots, J. Jill, Lands End, Eileen Fisher. Lots of Hermes and Ferragamo scarves. My favorite purses are LV Alma in monogram, MJ Stam, LV Speedy, Coach Sabrina (leather).

I really like the watch, but I'm concerned that it looks too masculine for a woman. On the other hand, sometimes it seems like it would add just the right amount of edginess to my rather staid wardrobe.

Just for a bit of reference: This watch is exactly in the center of my comfort zone and is what I would reflexively pick as 'normal' for me: http://shop.nordstrom.com/s/timex-ez-read-leather-strap-watch/3170076?origin=shoppingbag

Additionally, I am not really a 'watch' person. (I keep myself busy being a purse and perfume person! LOL) This watch would be my main summer watch.

So, what do you think? Is it too ‘off’ for a classic look?

I think the MbyMJ is pretty but trendy rather than classic and a tadbit busy for my taste, it is a fashion watch rathen than a classic with clean lines. I used to be more of a watch person than I am now though, I had Gucci, Coach, etc. never wear them anymore but those brands might have watches that fit your style more. My style changed to a bit trendier or rather unique in the jewelry department too which is why I no longer wear them I guess, also I would prefer a big watch now like a black Tag with diamonds:))). I used to work as a watch specialist which is how I got the watches and Coach and Gucci are nice for quality. I would suggest Movado but we had quality problems involved with them but their lines are cleaner and more classic.

Personally, I like the Timex better. The lines are cleaner, and it still has an updated look with the large face.

The Marc Jacobs watch has too much going on for my taste, both in the watch face and the band.

If you want something a little edgier, why not keep looking? There are many brands and styles out there, and when you see the one that fits you, you'll probably know it.

I don't think the MJ is edgy, just busy and not at all masculine. If you are unsure then you probably won't wear it. Now I only buy what I absolutely LOVE, knowing from past purchases that I don't wear things I don't adore.

PS I like the Timex for an everyday watch - love the band.

The Timex would be an everyday watch and the MbMJ would be something I'd wear if I wanted to dress up and look nice, not necessarily for function. I'd wear it because it looked good with whatever I was wearing for the day.

The first one is plain as it could be. Based on your handbag choice Marc Jacob is something you like. His watches are fun and trendy, I would go for the second watch.

Both are pretty! The timex is classic but definitely IMHO will not add any edge to your classic wardrobe as it is... the MJ one is a bit edgy and might do that job better if that's what you're looking for! :)

I'm not much of a watch girl either ... so I'm not sure how helpful I am! That timex is really pretty - in my mind it's the "Talbots" of watches though, it kind of takes no fashion chances whatsoever. Which is great if that's what you're looking for! :) J Crew sells a great timex right now in women's and men's sizes and you can buy the interchangeable bands in all different colours... maybe that would add a touch more edge?

ps I hope that didn't come off as judgemental!! (saying that it's the "talbots" of watches) - LOL - I have not much more edge than you I think - LOL... I just picture Talbots as the never-can-go-wrong-all American classic brand, meaning not edgy - but not in a bad way! :)
