Ok I will post a pic of my speedy 25. The glazing on handles has gotten dark and sticky and I’m wondering how to remove and reglaze? I’ve used fiebings edge kote dark brown to fix the dark brown glazing, but is there a specific product/tool to take of stickiness and reglaze because the glaze on inner handles looks clear? Thanks in advance

Yes, VVN is a special case for them, they use red paint to paint the edge, then they apply a very generous clear edge coating. Most paint manufacturers produce clear or neutral paints, so it might work similarly over a red first layer.

I wouldn't feel comfortable doing that myself, I would take it in and get a quote for repair.
Thank you. Unfortunately I don’t live anywhere near an LV store nor the patience to wait if I send it lol. I was about to purchase another fiebings product on Amazon but just not sure which one to get. The brown edge kote worked wonders on my strap/other glazing issues!

I'd get a red one and a neutral one. After removing most of the current edgepaint with sandpaper, I'd apply 1 layer of red. Wait until dry, then apply the neutral over and over again until it forms a thick coat.

Oh I didn’t know they used red! It’s very very faint now that I look closely!

Oh that sounds like a good idea! Thank you! Do you think the one coat of red would be too much?

Also, is do you recommend the red and clear edge kote or a different product? There are so many different ones…

Glazing aren’t supposed to turn sticky, right? If you take it back to LV, it’s possible you can get a replacement piece or full refund credit at current speedy price.

They had a bad batch of Empreinte speedy in 2013-14~ (I got that batch) literally the glazing first started sticky then melted onto whatever it’s sticking to. Brought it in for repair. In the end, they gave me the option to get the new version of the Empreinte speedy (then) and promised it’s an improved version. I took the second option of full credits and choose some other bags instead. Just sharing my personal experience with sticky glazing.

It is a darker, (slightly) burnt red, but it is red, not brown. The brand you used if a fine one, I can try to look up the brand that they (allegedly) source the paint from, but the info is mostly based on rumours among leather enthusiasts, because their contract is top secret. But it is romoured to be a French company, but as far as I remember (last time I checked was 5 years ago), they were hard to get (no webshop), and they don't offer small quantities either. I doubt that 3-400$ is reasonable price for a home-made restoration, for that amount of money Vuitton can replace almost all leather on the bag.

Ok so I found this product fiebings Resolene. It’s an acrylic finisher. Do you think that would work?

That seems like a surface finish rather than an edge paint. I wouldn't use it on the edges.
Hmm. Ok. Thank you. I will show you the slick, hard finish of part of handles that is still intact. I’m surprised I can’t find anyone who’s had a similar issue or knows of a product that would work. I looked up so many videos lol
