What essentials do you always have in your bag?

Forgot phone charger, lip products, and handcream. And sunglasses.
Lip balm & tissues.
Without these, I would die.
Usually, I have sunglasses on face. Always. Even in rain.

cosmetic case with miscellaneous items, including emery board, eye drops, tylenol, dental floss, swiss army knife.
If I have to go smaller, I leave out the large wallet or the cosmetic case, or both. The major credit cards and my DL are in the card case, and there is an emergency $20 in the coin purse so I can live without the wallet unless I need to spend a lot of cash or am going to stores that have their own rewards cards -- those are in the wallet.

* Phone, obviously - it's such an old model that the battery will last for 2 weeks so no need to carry a charger
* Ray-Bans (aviators for larger bags, foldable Wayfarers for tiny purses)
* Lancel Clés with work keys, home keys and bus card
* Mini wallet (most often either Adax, LV Empreinte Clés or LC LF coin pouch)
* Hand sanitizer, a couple of tissues and depending on the time of day when gone, maybe my medication.
For larger bags I also have foldable scissors, a mini Maglite, xylitol candy, mini tablet+earphones, nail file and hand cream that don't leave my bag.

I always carry the following(no matter the bag size): Wallet, phone, change purse, pocket Moleskin, two ink pens(A nice one and a cheap one to loan out), emergency medicine, saline spray, mints, lip balm, lotion, stain-cleaning wipes, handkerchief, plastic shopping tote(the kind that folds down and has a clip), sunglasses, tissues, pepper-spray and a small multi-tool.
What I *like* to have when I am carrying a larger bag: Personal-sized Filoday diary, water bottle, small umbrella, make-up bag, a novel, a tie or silk scarf(if I am not already wearing one, or a formal one for emergencies), phone power-bank.
