So, as the title says, what do you think will be the it bag(s) of this year? Or do you think the concept of one/two/three "it bags" is kind of fading now, and thus it won't be something we really see anymore? What do you hope/not hope is big and on trend for this year with regards to bags? :D

Predict more minimal styles. As we saw insane colors/embellishment for 2017.
Trends seem to rotate to opposite ends of spectrum. To keep people buying, re-buying.

As economic worries continue, predict so will fringes & fun add-ons. Cheap, uplifting.
Bag charms should hang on, too.

Also predict transparent bags, for minimal/practical reasons--many workplaces require & employees want fashionable choices.

Whatever evil design god causes python skin handles & graffiti logo mania could wander away for several decades. Would not be loss, imo.

Am sure concept of "it" bag continues & will continue.
Just as I am sure about my utter lack of concern over most of them.;)

Ah all fair comments. I hope graffiti logo mania dispenses, too! Not too fussy about python skin handles, though. Different strokes for different folks, I suppose  Minimal is never a bad idea, although I do appreciate a fun/quirky bag, too. I think the thing is a lot of the fun bags are cute, but don't seem to really deserve the price, so the possible change of direction to something more minimalistic and I suppose easy luxe, because things will match easier, is understandable (exceedingly obvious observation, but I concur, it's still valid)

Who knows what 2018 will bring, we may just be surprised! Irregardless, I hope there's some lovely bag offerings on their way! :yahoo:

I think it would still be minimal, simple designs with fun, vibrant colors. The mini bag trend would continue and would continue for some time because for petite consumers (including me) it suits our body frame better, and smaller usually means most cost effective. While there’s a lot of embellishments in 2017 eg from Gucci but i hardly seen anyone carrying them?

I hope the mini trend continues (wallet may not, but that's a different story).

I agree with the minimal designed bags. Major designers are taking bets on logos again, but I think that'll be a year or two before it catches on beyond the sales they're already getting.

I don't think there will be any bags that are the It bag of 2018, but a bag will probably be designed in 2018 that will become the IT bag in a couple of years. There's just too much flux in the industry, too many designers moving houses (Celine, Chloe, Givenchy, Saint Laurent) or designers who have been at there houses for awhile and their It bags have turned into classics.

From what little i have seen of upcoming collections embellishment seems to be the name of the game.. some is okay some is like a child's art project, either way to pricey for something so 'trendy' in my opinion.

I think detailed straps/handles are covering the brands.. as is embroidery and patches, stickers.. i'm boring, i like quality, classic bags i can use for years, so the 'it' bags are rarely on my list ...

I agree, a lot are fun and quirky but it’s just a lot and peculiar for such a large (in some cases) price tag. Some of these embellishments are fun but way too much for ordinary people to wear day to day. Big purchases such as luxury bags (for most) are thought of vis a vis value for money, quality, how much wear they’ll get, whether their wardrobe is compatible etc. I can see the fun for example in Moschino’s past happy meal box bags and stuff, but eh... so pricy! I’m with you, even if it makes us boring!

I think logos are coming back...case in point LV.

Yeah, I kinda feel that for some logos never really go out. I have a speedy 30 in mono (fist designer bag when I was in my early teens) and have seen in both myself and generally a shift towards more minimalist, less showy designs. That being said, there’s still a good chunk of people (and probably always will be) who buy a lot based upon how obvious it is they have something expensve, for show’s sake. So I think there will always be a place for mono or other forms of logomania! I still love my soeedy but feel more hesitant to use it as I’ve grown into a less showy, more design focused young adult.
