What do you do with your "too worn out to wear" bags?

What do you do with your "too worn out to wear" bags?

  • Give them away to a charitable organization, i.e. Goodwill

  • Give them away to a friend or family member who doesn't mind using "your trash" bags.

  • Trash or recycle them.

  • Use them as storage bags (to store your other things in them, just not for going out).

  • Display them in your home.

  • Turn them into other wearable things or other objects.

  • Other.

No such thing as a bag that is too beaten up. I keep on carrying them, take them to the spa once a year, have them repaired if anything breaks, and then keep on carrying them.

If a bag bores me, I will offer it up to selected family members. If they refuse, then it goes to a consignment shop.

I do have one Noe which has seen better decades, and I hadn't carried for a number of years. I was tempted to offer it up for a family grab, but then discovered that it is GREAT for my knitting.

^ I second that Phanta Bitten (with my designer bags)! Recentley (earlier this yr) I started collecting designer bags. I got rid of all my tacky rhinestone, faux leather, pvc bags to get some luxury in my life by giving them away, selling them & well, I had to throw one away as the pvc was peeling, yuck!

I have yet to wear out a bag enough for it to not be wearable. Even my cheap ones are still in great or better condition after years of hard and heavy use.

Otherwise, if it's made of something other than leather, I would first offer it to my frugal family members who like to make use of most things and see if they need it for storage, but if that doesn't work, I'd recycle it depending on the material. But, if it's leather and nice at that, I would cut out the not so worn parts and weave them or make them into a pouch or something.

I have never beaten up a bad so bad that it was not usable. I try to keep all my bags in great shape so I can sell them once I no longer use them.

I do this exact same thing. However if they are too beaten up you could still probably put them on *bay. You know the saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure."

I have never used a bag until it was beaten to a bloodly pulp!! LOL

I have gotten fed up with them where im not wearing it anymore and then I give them away to a charity

I only have bags that are not my style (anymore) I still store them or use them to store something else. I also doubt that I can abuse bags so much they belong in the trash...

If they are truly past the point where I'd be seen carrying them, I trash them. If they are in wearable condition but I'm done with them, I give them to Goodwill.

I think it's important to make that distinction. A friend of mine once tried to donate a set of dishes to Goodwill, many of the plates chipped, and was told: "Poor people don't want your trash, lady." That comment has always stuck with me. If a bag is trash, it's trash and I should throw it away myself.

Vintage Leather, I appreciate your perpective. I have had some "accidents" that I think make a bag beyond use (huge ink stains, horrible mold, and a tragic mothball curse when I loaned a bag to my SIL) and would love to know if those things would make you get rid of a bag?

I have thrown away a bag that had faded and didn't look 'right' any more.

I have also given away lots of bags to friends - I'd rather do that than lend.

My family expect new so I dare not, my Mother and Sister are quite fussy about what bag they would like to borrow :jrs:

Some bags look better a little worn anyway.

I just can't remember the last time I wore a bag 'into the ground' apart from my Billy bag that broke after me using it after only 3 times. Not a brand I shall ever be re-visiting...and yes that went in the bin after the shop wouldn't even give me a credit note and said they would have to charge me for getting it repaired.
