I have a very similar necklace to the below except the pearls are smaller, daintier & less obviously graduated.

Oh yeah, and mine has a snapped chain!!

This was my wedding necklace & I want to replace the snapped chain so I can wear it again. Original chain was 9kt YG.

I only have one other real gold necklace- diamond JUC pendant in RG. I have no real gold earrings though at the moment I’m wearing exclusively YG coloured. My bracelets are all 18kt RG, my watches are either SS or TT SS/RG. My rings are platinum (wedding set) or RG (thin JUC).

What metal should I go with for the replacement chain?

I prefer yg or rg for pearls. I find wg/platinum washes them out a bit. However as I type that, I realise I have pearls with wg!

Do you have any earrings? I tend to like my necklace and earring metals to match.

This seems to be my biggest issue. I’m not wearing my RG necklace because I don’t have RG earrings! This means I end up wearing YG fashion necklaces/earrings because I need the two to match. I don’t like fashion/played RG as it’s too coppery

Agreed re rg colour. I only pierced my ears over a year ago so had the same dilemma. I ordered some Shaun Leane rg plated silver earrings which I have been happy with. I'll buy some fine rg in time.

All the best with your decision.

Personally I don't have much of a preference of metals for pearls. I think they all look beautiful!

However, maybe something to consider is the color or undertone of your pearl.
If it has a warmer undertone (or something on the pink or yellow side), off setting it with a WG or platinum would allow you to mix and match more with other metals.
If it has a cooler undertone (blue or green), then off setting it with a YG or WG, would also give that flexibility of mixing and matching with other metals.

If you go with a chain that has the same undertone of your pearls, it may have a tendency to suit certain gold colors more than others. However, that also depends on how matchy-matchy you like to be.
I personally mix and match everything so it would not bother me as much.

Depends how bright the pearls are as some have a cream-ish undertone. The ones in your photo look pretty bright but the YG seems slightly harsh against it? I think RG would look beautiful with this

Hi! I love pearls, and for your necklace, for sure I would go with WG. Why?

Because the YG chain takes away from the beauty of the pearls. With a YG chain, the eye is first drawn to the competing bright yellow gold chain and then the eye sees the pearls second. With a WG chain, the chain is an elegant neutral and the pearls become the star.

I would let the pearls shine with a WG chain. For earrings, I would get some classic pearl studs to match the necklace. That would be a beautiful look.

Here is an example of what I mean. The necklace below is similar to the one you posted. I have posted it in both WG and YG.
With the WG chain, the eye goes right to the gorgeous pearls. The pearls are the star. I also think white metal (e.g. WG or platinum) gives off a more elegant vibe. It looks like fine jewelry, not fashion jewelry.

With the YG chain, the eye first sees the yellow metal chain. The eye then moves to the pearls second. I also don't think it looks as glamorous as the WG necklace. YG is known to be a casual metal (e.g. YG chain necklaces are a very casual look).

Hope this helps, and good luck!

I like white gold with bright pearls, yellow gold with black pearls. For me the combination from white pearls with white gold is more modern and classy then with yellow gold.

But in the end it's a question of personal preference!
