I would say that black is always a good choice. A larger bag is usually best for work and is more casual. A medium to smaller bag can go from day to evening. However, if her wardrobe is more in the brown family then I would go with a brown rather than a black bag. I do think black is easier to dress up than brown. Hope that helps!
