Loewe mini puzzle in off white pebbled leather. Can be smushed into a suitcase and overstuffed for a day trip ( I dont carry much, but it fits a lot for its size). Lightweight And can transition from a winter white to a fresh pop summer neutral in the blink of an eye. Take off the crossbody strap, and you have a cute bag for cocktails or dinner.

for airplane travel, I like an hermes navy felt TPM Evelyne. No one makes a fuss if it’s crossbody while im seated for take off. It’s easy and understated, and furniture quality felt is arguably as durable as leather. Also nice for ski vacations. DH loves the Hermes sac a de peches 21 for travel. Crossbody only, but fits a lot in a slim profile.

For pool and beach, I used to use a Goyard St. Louis bc it collapses completely flat in my weekender bag, but honestly, if you carry water or sunscreen, it’s safer and easier to use an inexpensive hotel tote.

ETA: I would not be able to go to a smaller bag without the valextra universal sunglass case (exposed temples). It fits even oversized sunnies.

I love this thread! I don't really have a go-to summer bag because I'm always changing bags based on what i need for the outfit/things to fit/occasion/etc. However, in terms of style, I definitely believe that dark leather is not a great summer bag material. In fact, i find big and heavy leather in general dont make good summer bags, although i am sure there are plenty of exceptions.

Style wise, i like light color in canvas/wicker/nylon. In rotation at the moment, I have
  • Neverfull MM in damier azur (tote)
  • Polene beri (onze) in Lilac (small x-body)
  • Uniqlo round mini shoulder nylon bag in beige (all the tiktok rage i hear)
  • Kipling nylon small bag (abanu multi) that can be worn as a bum bag or a x-body in beige and grey pattern (usually to the airport)
  • random canvas bucket bag in white (about to be retired for good cuz it's so dirty hahaha)
  • Bal navy raffia (top handle or x-body)
  • Furla wicker tote

I'm sure if I dig a little more in the back i probably have more that is in storage. There are clearly too many and need to edit the collection

IMO Summer bags include a whole range, beach bags are a completely different genre.

I live by the beach much of the year so I am more interested in not dragging sand and small stones into the house. I have plastic-coated-cotton Liberty tote and a nylon folded shopper. I absolutely do not mind if these get messy because I can put them in the washing machine on the coolest setting.

Summer bags mean (usually) simpler style, lighter neutrals, maybe patterns, materials other than leather, and/or brighter colours. I will also wear bright reds, greens, pinks etc. The exception is my Gucci patent leather basket which is black and my gunmetal BV hobo - anything woven is still quite summery IMO.

Some examples, in order:
Ostrich tote, G Flora tote, H DS, G Bright, BV Cervo hobo and G BTH basket.

It sounds like you have a great selection of bags for different occasions and purposes! The Loewe mini puzzle in off white pebbled leather seems like a versatile choice that can hold a surprising amount while still being lightweight. Its ability to transition from winter white to a fresh summer neutral is definitely a plus. Removing the crossbody strap transforms it into a cute bag for cocktails or dinner, which is convenient.

For airplane travel, you prefer the Hermes navy felt TPM Evelyne. Its crossbody design allows for easy maneuvering while seated for takeoff, and the furniture-quality felt material offers durability comparable to leather. It's also a suitable choice for ski vacations.

When it comes to pool and beach outings, you used to rely on the collapsible Goyard St. Louis because of its convenient storage, but now you find it safer and easier to use an inexpensive hotel tote for carrying water and sunscreen.

Lastly, the Valextra universal sunglass case is a must-have accessory for you. Its ability to accommodate even oversized sunglasses is essential, and the exposed temples make it a practical choice.

Overall, it seems like you've curated a collection of bags that cater to various needs and situations. Each one serves its purpose well, whether it's for day trips, airplane travel, beach outings, or carrying sunglasses.

I completely understand your love for changing bags based on different needs and occasions. It's great to have a variety of options to match your outfits and carry everything you need. Your current rotation of summer bags sounds lovely, and it's interesting to see your preference for lighter materials during the season.

I agree that dark leather can sometimes feel heavy and not ideal for summer, although there can be exceptions depending on the design and style. Light-colored canvas, wicker, and nylon are fantastic choices for a summer bag as they give off a fresh and breezy vibe.

Your collection seems quite diverse and versatile, with options ranging from totes to cross-body bags, shoulder bags, and even a bum bag. It's always exciting to have different styles to choose from. And don't worry about having too many bags; many bag enthusiasts can relate to that feeling. Editing and curating your collection over time can be a fun process to refine your personal style and make sure you're getting the most out of each bag.

Overall, it seems like you have a great sense of style and enjoy experimenting with different materials and designs for your summer bags. Keep exploring and enjoying your collection!
