I love the flat messenger, but before I make the leap and buy one without ever seeing it, I'd love to hear from those that have one and how much it holds before it looks too bulky.
I think I've searched every thread regarding the messengers, but couldn't find one showing what actually fits inside one. TIA.

I am very familiar with the flat messengers. They can look bulky if you stuff them too much. I have found that using a small wallet and putting it in the inside zip pocket helps the look and putting you MU stuff in a couple smaller MU bags, instead of one fat bulky bag, it helps disperse the bulkiness. When I carry my Flat messenger's, it is usually for a purpose that I want to have my hands free like on vacation or shopping etc. I have also put an extra hole in mine and taken off the shoulder pad to that I can make it a much shorter strap if I want to stuff it. That way it looks better stuffed. When it hangs on your hip stuffed it looks weird. I know that many would scowl that I took the shoulder pad off and had extra holes put in, but, it is a bag that looks great like that and it really easy to use that way for vacations or shopping or when you want to use it either way. It also has a dressier look than the day bag in case when on vacation you just want one bag to carry.

Ohhh, I love the modeling pics! Thanks for the advice regarding the wallet, MU, bag, etc. and thanks for the modeling pics. I had seen those (which helped me make the decision to get one) and the thread where you shortened the strap (which I will probably do, also).

I love Messenger bags as well and had an 07 Blue Glacier but didn't like the fact that it didn't have too much depth to it. I carry so much junk that it was too bulky and the strap wasn't long enough for me to wear cross-body (I like it hanging low on the hip). I wish Bal would come up with a cross-body bag for women because the men's are just too long for me.

I've been thinking about this bag but didn't even think about the strap length assuming a messenger would be long. I, too, like to wear mine low on the hip. Where did it fall on you and how tall are you? TIA!

I have an 04 flat messenger, which is a more LONG rectangle than the newer ones. Everything that goes in my city, also goes in the messenger. The cool thing about my messenger is that the inside and outside pockets are the full length of the bag. It holds alot more than you'd suspect. I put 2 checkbooks in the outside zip pocket. I LOVE the messenger style and would DEF buy another.
I think the strap on this one is 44". I am 5'4.

^^ Oh Ellie. It looks PERFECT on you, no kidding.

The newer flat messengers don't hold much. I guess you could shove whatever you want in it, but when stuffed I found that it looked kind of awkward. Like a pair of shoes stuffed into a too-small carrying case. You can see the imprint of nearly everything you put into the bag!

I don't even carrying that much stuff and I think it looks over-stuffed really easily. Can you try a Hobo or something? [=

I agree with this. The newer messengers don't have enough depth, couldn't agree more.

Thanks ReRe... I LOVE low slung bags. Agree...the older ones IMO hold more AND have a longer strap. Dang hard to find, tho! Nice bag to travel with tho... and perfect for casino-hopping.

Ellie Mae, love your messenger bag and it looks great on you. The length looks perfect and probably more of what I'd need since I'm 5'8". I don't think I'd be able to find an older one and I'm loving the saddle color right now. It's pretty expensive to buy a bag that sounds like it doesn't hold much, but I've put one on layaway with Realdeal and just can't wait for it. I'll probably where it more like a shoulder bag and I don't carry too much.....so hopefully, it'll work.

You'd be surprised how much they will hold.... at least the older ones. They ARE worth fighting for. I LOVE my 04 messenger. Just hang in and wait for the RIGHT one. I LOVE that LONG strap length!! I guess I am a die-hard rocker chick.. as the longer the strap, the happier I am! I promise.. I can stuff all I carry in a city into the messenger.. wallet, 2 checkbooks. make-up stuff. etc. If your messenger has POCKETS, you'll b fine!!
